How do I change driving mode specifically Sport mode

Good Morning,

I have had a 2011 528i now for 2 months and I see that my car is in Normal mode when I turn off and on the traction control button, I know this might be a silly question, but I was wondering how do I change the driving mode to sport mode, do I need a specific package to have the sport mode option. The car has navigation and the i-drive screen.

I am not sure if I can do this through the I-Drive screen or do I need to have a special package.

move your automatic shifter to the Left. Now you are in sports mode. You do not have the option that you are thinking of by the gear select that others use to change modes (ECO, COMFORT, SPORT).

Thank you very much, when in sports mode do I have to change gears manually or will the car change them for me.

The car will shift up or down for you. Do you have the MSport package?

No I don't, do I need the sport package for it to change gears by itself. You know I really wish the 528i came in a manual, that option would really be nice.

The MSport package will give you the adaptive shocks, but no, you do not need the MSport package to be in sport mode with the shifter.

If you have adaptive shocks, you will have the DDC toggle switch (Drive Performance Control as it is now called) for the modes.

I have a 2013 528i and it has a specific tab for sport, comfort, or Eco mode. It also has the manual shift option, so everyday on the drive home from work I switch to sport mode, manual shift and it's a blast! Hope you get yours figured out, it's one of the best aspects of my 528i!

According to KBB, the 2011 528i MSport does not have Active Roll Stabilization and BMW's four-mode Adaptive Drive.

http://www.kbb.com/car-news/all-the-...ll/2000005371/

"To enhance corner-carving proficiency, the new M Sport Package bolsters its tauter suspension tuning with elements contained in the 5 Series Dynamic Handling Package. These include Electronic Damping Control, Active Roll Stabilization and BMW's four-mode Adaptive Drive setup -- although the latter two items are not part of the formula on the 528i."

That is also the case over here in the UK, the 528i would only have the stand alone variable damper option, VDC (223), no AD (2VA) available.

Originally DDC (modes function) only came if you optioned one of the following, 2TB, 2VA, 223 & 2VH. Certainly so over here in Europe.

If there are adaptive shocks, then the modes function will be there with the toggle switch. If there is adaptive suspension in 2011 models, DDC will have a Comfort mode.

I'm not sure this is accurate. Atleast for the 2011 535i (which I previously owned) the M-Sport Package was $6500 and included Dynamic Damper Control and Active Roll Stabilization. From 2012 forward, ARS was unbundled from the M-Sport package as a stand-alone option in the USA. Again, I had a US-Spec 2011 535 ... but usually from historical comparison, the packages for 528 and 535 were similar ... 550s had similar but slightly different option packages (ie. Executive Package), and came with a few goodies standard that were upgrades on 528 and 535.
