F13 M6 Exhaust on F10 535 (Videos Added)
UPDATE-VIDEOS ADDED:
Hola amigos, Do any of you know whether an axel back F12/F13 M6 muffler (or even M6 GC) would work on a F10 535 the same way the F10 M5 works (just by joining the 3" M pipes with the smaller 535 ones)? I'm looking to do an axel back setup and am having some trouble finding anything reasonably priced. Thanks! UPDATE: My search for the perfect exhaust for my F10 535 is complete. A few weeks back I almost pulled the trigger on the Eisenmann race mufflers but had some problems justifying the price. I even had a custom Benchmade Proper turbo back system on at one point but it droned like crazy so I took it off. These F13 M6 mufflers are exactly what I was looking for. As far as the install went, it wasn't as easy as anticipated and there were some minor modifications that had to be made to the hangars and some custom reducers that had to be fabricated by my exhaust shop. All said and done it took about 4 hours and was around $400. That coupled with the $500 I paid for the virtually new mufflers (20 miles), were still talking under $1000 for a solid, reliable system (with manual valve control). Now on to the sound - With the valves closed, it is much deeper than stock, is sportier and has NO DRONE whatsoever. This is how I will run the car when I take road trips or have a lot of highway driving ahead of me. With the valves open, the thing sounds like a literal beast! Now remember, I had a nice turbo back system so I’m not saying this with zero experience of what the N55 can produce in terms of sound. The open valve setup has a constant low, deep rumble to it and really opens up above 3K RPM. There is slight drone between 1500-2000 RPM but it can honestly be drowned out by low volume stereo. Here are a few pics of the finished product and i'll get some videos uploaded this week. I was going to take a video with my stock mufflers, but we all know what it sounds like…nothing. They should fit. You already know about the transition connection needed but here are a few other things to think about:
1) Check the hanger positions on your 535i with the F12 M6 set (pic) I just picked up. If the hanger positions are close, then it'll be really easy. 2) Note the M6 stock tips and their position. They slip off so you can tweak the direction and length of the pipes and slip the tips back on to your liking. If you're doing aftermarket tips, then anything goes so long as your mindful of the length and where they point. 3) Assuming you already have an M sport, you'll need to switch out to the 550i bumper facia (<$100 at dealer) so the quad tips fit. If you don't have an M sport bumper, then its a PIA. You'll need to a) cut the opening for the quads, b) change the bumper to accept an M 550i sport facia, M5 facia, or any other aftermarket facia. Cutting might look tacky and changing out the bumper and facia will cost near $2000, parts labor and painting. 4) Lastly, note that the M6/M5 mufflers have built in vacuum flaps (for noise). Since the 535i doesn't use them, you'll need to wire them open (easy to do). Avoid cutting them off or welding them open in case you might sell these mufflers in the future. Good luck! Quote:

Thanks a lot for the useful information! I already have quad tips in the position of an M5 (cut my non M-sport bumper and added trim so it doesn't look crappy) and should be able to adjust the tips and vacuum valve to best suit my needs.
Where you really helped was the hangar position. I know M5 hangers work perfectly on a 535 and using your picture of the M6 mufflers, I was able to match up their position to an M5 pic I have and they look identical. If I can find a pair of M6 mufflers I'll probably go for it! Thanks again. |

Bimmer Pals,
If any of you are interested, I just procured some F13 M6 mufflers from a fellow forum member and should have them within the next week or so. I'll take it over to my exhaust shop for the install and give you all a before and 2x after (one with vacuum valves closed and one with vacuum valves open) video so you can hear the difference. I'll also let you guys know how the drone is and what the level of effort/cost was for the install. If all goes well, this may help some out with an exhaust choice that doesn't cost the same as a 4K tv. |

I don't think the 535i has a vacuum operated flap at all. You might just have to wire the M6 valve open , otherwise one pipe that the valve is on will be closed full time.
Love to hear a sound clip either way. Thanks Quote:

Alright guys,
I received my F13 M6 mufflers. They have 20 miles on them and will be installed this Saturday. I bought some 2.25" to 3" pipe connectors and matched up the hangars in person so it shouldn't be too hard of an install. Here are some pics of the mufflers and I will post some sound clips soon (one with valves closed and one with them open - manually like what was suggested above). |

Videos added. They really don't do the sound justice but they should give you an idea of how much better the M6 mufflers are than stock. If you're in the DMV area and want to hear it in person, PM me.
Thanks! |

Congrats OP! So when I had my M5 exhaust I used a metal ziptie to keep the valves open at all times.
How do you go from open to close valves? Is it something manual or did you do something to automate it? I'm back on stock mufflers with quad tips and I'm very happy with my new hybrid |

I had stock mufflers with quad tips for a while but needed a little more sound!! May be putting a feeler out for my stock mufflers (with 15K miles on them) with custom quads fabricated so if anyone is interested, let me know. Cheers |

Would you mind posting a video of your valve setup with the zip ties and how you open/close them? I have mine tacked open and the drone is miserable on the highway around 2k rpm
