Handbrake screeching noise

Noticed today (by accident as it was quiet and the window was open while parking) that every time I engage or disengage the handbrake I get this awful screeching noise. I already have a dealership appointment next week, but any idea? According to CBS I still have lots of miles on my pads, but I haven't looked at them yet. Thanks.

Well I will tag along on this post with my issue. I can't ever get my parking brake to disengage. I have to put the car in park several times, use hill decent, then it finally disengages.

I was told this is "normal", I insisted that I don't recall hearing this sound before but was again told this is "normal". So I'll just accept that though it's a pretty horrid sound. Admittedly I can only hear it with the engine off and the window down, but I'd still be interested whether other F10 owners have the same behaviour.

Not having heard the noise your car makes it's hard to say if it's normal or not

But any car that has electric handbrake makes a similar noise when applying or releasing the parking brake. It's the sound of the electric motor and drivetrain connected to the caliper that you are hearing.

Here's a recording of the sound releasing/locking/releasing (or the other way around ;-)

OK, good to know it's normal (though it's pretty horrid ;-)
