N63 or n63tu

Ok boys I’m in the market for a 550i I have 25k cash to play with . I found some info about changes in the n63tu motor but I’m wondering if it’s really worth the extra 10k for similar miles , or if I should just pay cash for a 2011 (n63) 550i I have been seeing 2011-2012 with 40k-50k miles for under 20k and was wondering if this motor is even worth it to get or if I should just finance the rest and pay the extra for n63tu . Also I’m looking to go full bolt on .
Any info is appreciated .

Bolt on you are quite limited. The item with most choice is Exhaust. Intercoolers you only have Dinan as an option for both (Alpina will be more cost prohibitive). Intake you have Dinan or BadBlack for both. Turbos, you really only have Alpina or Pure Turbos. This applies to both N63 and N63TU. DME Tuning you have more options for N63TU in form of piggy back but still some available for N63. Overall, I'd recommend going with the TU since its newer. N63 already has had a bunch of issues and recalls and now BMW is even trying to resolve a class action by replacing engines but customer has to pay quite a bit for it. Also, the newer Nav and LED headlights are a pretty good option to go for. You can find a decent 550i 2014 for around $30K now. (I'd choose a 650i Gran Coupe if I were to choose again)

Oh ya I love the 650i but quite a bit more money just for the looks IMO. looking to go as far as I can on stock turbos until next year . Only thing I don’t like is in 2014 dynamic handling/ARS became a stand-alone option and seems no one went for it, as oppose to 550i 2011-2013 where it came standard with m sport . I have a great independent mechanic 100$ hourly in Elk Grove ca . May seem like a hard question to answer but realistically I’m not looking to spend over 3-4K a year just to drive it 10k miles yearly

Go for a late 2013 model then, at least you get the newer Navigation and(if you get some good options) speed limit indication etc..

This looks like a great deal : http://www.vccarsg.com/2014-BMW-5Ser...4/Details.aspx

Just put in some coilers and M5 sway bars and it will be all set

That’s a deal! Only thing is I really want the m sport package . Also I’d have to fly from Cali out to Georgia the. Drive it back home and at the mileage it gets id lose on the money I saved lol

What’s new with the navigation ?

Spend the extra money and get the N63Tu. Much more reliable and you get a 40 HP bump to boot.

based on what owners have been reporting, even the TU still has it's issues. for OP's sake, if you plan to keep the car for a while I would suggest just getting a 2011 535i and modifying that instead. more aftermarket support for the N55, far more reliable engine.

Then I wouldn't get the V8. See the stickie on the N63.

i think i need to test drive them havent even done that yet lol but i do have a 2008 335i , 2009 535i and 2004 545i . 335i is jb4 g5 dci and some e85 and even that seems like not enough power . pure stage 2 seems promising but still ive been reading countless forums on people saying the f10 535i is just slowed compared to n54

nah man that's not true, the N54 and the N55 are the exact same power levels stock for stock. the N54 is better if you are chasing for high power levels, the N55 is overall more reliable making it a better daily driver for under 400HP. plus, the F10 has the 8 speed transmission which is more responsive and shifts better, and the small ratios due to the 8 speed helps keep the car in the powerband better VS the 6 speed. so my suggestion, test drive the 535i instead of just taking other peoples word for it before you decide for certain. if you have the time and money (or the desire to work on a car yourself) then I guess you could go for a 550i, but be prepared and have some money aside for repairs because chances are it WILL happen. if you want to keep the car for a long time and don't have a crazy amount of money on the side for repairs (I know living in CA is super expensive) then the 535i is without a doubt the better buy. plus, there is no TU version with the N55 like there is with the N63, meaning that you can save money by simply buying a 2011 model.

so hard to decide although 535i would all around be the better financial decision . just wish it had the never ending tuning potential as the n54 . im going to test drive them both . IF i could just find an n55 535i with the IMPOSSIBLE to find ARS/dynamic drive option. id be that much more interested

I have owned both and I can definitely say that I was unhappy with my 2011 f10 and have no complaints at all with the n63tu. BMW revamped and fixed many issues the first f10 had. Absolutely go with the LCI!

Do this: buy a M Sport 2011 BMW 550i with closer to 50k miles at the same time you buy an Easy Street Route 66 Warranty (not Main Street version) for around $3k.

100% sure as hell sell that puppy before the warranty expires.

Been hearing a lot of talk on the Route 66 warranty . Even my mechanic (master certified) told me stay away from n63 lol quoted me $3,800 for valve stem seal job , $1,800 for timing chain , I can live with n54 repairs but n63 is starting to scare me out of warranty !
