I had Continental DWS non-runflats on my 335-xdrive and loved them. Quiet, lasted a long time and pretty grippy, especially for an All season tire. I'm putting them on my 5 as soon as I pick it up next week.

Big difference but you can get better RFTs as well. You will have to buy a spare and carry it around in the trunk.

They are Toyo T1R.

They are 21" 255 up front and 295 out back and they feel better than the Msport 19 RFT tires!

My dilemma is whether or not to buy the tire/wheel insurance when I pick up my 550i on Friday and live with the run-flats, or spend that $1500 on non-rf's and have some left over to buy a compact spare. As discussed elsewhere on this forum, the tire/wheel insurance is void if you switch to non-rf's.

Catfish, I had the same situation as you do since '07 when my 07 328xi came with run flats. I declined the tire/wheel insurance all 3 times and don't regret it one bit. The night and day difference is well worth it for me. A couple of weeks ago I hit a pothole in my 335 so hard my jaw still hurts. I had to buy a $250 tire which popped (but I made it home and roadside assistance flatbedded me from there). I am certain if I had run flats my rim would have broken and I would have had a bubble in my tire. I've had non run flats and no spare (ive got a continental kit though) in so many cars, I got used to it and it doesn't bother me one bit. Since saturday have my run flats on the 335 so I can trade it in, and I hate them so much. You might feel differently but I know they're not for me.

Pass on the insurance and buy non-RFT tires. It make a big difference.

Is it possible to get wheel insurance only. I ask because I bent two OEM rims within weeks of getting the car on , what I would consider, minor pot holes. Ultimately move to OEM forged M5 wheels to fix the situation. I don't have the 5'er any longer but the factory wheel situation always pissed me off.
