Electric Steering - How to obtain better handling
New F10 Member, traded in my E60. Getting used to electric steering with All Seasons and RFT.
Question: I'm looking for suggestions on how to increase turn-in response and handling without spending a lot. Another thread suggests to ditch the RFT's and get a space saver spare. I'm leaning towards that. Background: I track my E90 M3. The F10 is my DD but I would like to increase it's handling ability. Thanks, Chris

Another suggestion would be to swap out your sway bars with the the M5/650 or H&R sway bars. |

This is the one area that I think BMW messed up with this car. I came form a E39 msport with 18Inch wheels and felt that the steering on that was nigh on perfect.
Emissions rules are casuing this, they have had to go with electric steering to reduce the amount of energy the car is using - I get that, but in the process, they've destroyed what BMW were already good at. Ultimate driviing machine, er... not quite so sure now. Obviously sport mode tightens up the steering a bit but its nowhere close. Also I've noticed that if you completly turn off DSC in comfort mode, the steering feels heavier (presumably what it is in sport mode.). Whether you want to drive with DSC completetly off is something to ponder about. If the F10 had the steering feel and handling of the E39 msport, it would be a fantastic car. Steering lets down what is otherwise a very good car. |

I have IAS; steering feel is tons better than the regular setup. Also changed the sway bar to front M5 and rear M550d ones.
In the end it is a heavy boat so never expect a great steering feel; for instance what I had in my ex-GT3.

Pretty sure my 2013 RWD F10 has electric steering, and I've got the M5 front sway bar.

Thanks Everyone for your suggestions. I'm going to start with:
1. Michelin Pilot Super Sports w/space saver spare. 2. More aggressive alignment (Camber, Toe). 3. Sway Bar upgrade. The above should settle me down - agree with AP who posted above that BMW has lost their driving feel. I hope BMW NA reads these posts....I've had 12 BMW's since 1987.

Front M5 swaybar fitted perfectly. The rear M5 is just too thick so that's why there is a m550d sway bar fitted; also plug & play.
All x-drive models and the M5 have hydraulic power steering. The RWD 5 series electric. Steering feel with an x-drive will always be 'horrible' (IMHO) as the front wheels do more then just steering. Thé reason I didn't go for the m550d is/was x-drive.
