Newbie 550i xdrive paddle vs no paddle question

Hi folks,
I am thinking about buying a 2011 M Sport 550i xdrive that's nicely optioned except it's lacking paddle shifters. Is the sport transmission with paddle shifters the same as DCT? How big of a deal is having the paddle shifters vs none for resale value? Is having the +/- on the shift knob similarly responsive as paddle shifters?

Thanks.

Depends but when I was looking for mine the paddles were a deal breaker if it didn't have them. Most people probably don't care

Since I've never had them, I can't say how much I'd use them or if they'd become a novelty. It seems I could buy a new wheel and have the ecu recoded, but not sure it's worth the money.
