Tire with a bulge
Well, we've had the car less than a week and the wifey hit's a major pothole on the freeway. I check it out and see the front tire with a bulge. She said it was unavoidable and that it hit hard.

Happened with me a few months back when I had an accident with my 640 GC, I basically went up the curve at about 50mph because some dude swerved randomly and was really close to hitting me... The whole Axle got Damaged and the Tire got a Bulge. Luckily I got called by the Dealership the next day saying they've got a really good offer for me and I ended up buying an X5 from them. They then told me that they changed the Axles and Tires had to be replaced due to the damage. Long Story Short, I Think The Tires Gotta Go!

The tire definitely has to go. With a bulge there is a high risk of a blow out.

If you have the road hazard warranty they will replace it for you, mine has a $50 deductible I am sure. If you don't have it buy it (about $900) and see if they can get that tire done under warranty. Should be 5yr unlimited mileage. BMW rim is about 800 and a run flat 400+ labor of course. My GF and I both have it, even covers aftermarket rims and tires up to the cost of OEM replacement. Called the warranty company to make sure. It'll pay for itself after I good tire F up. Sorry to hear about the problem, followed your purchase thread.

As VB5ER said, the BMW tire and wheel warranty is the best money ever spent. With only a $50, I already had 2 tires replaced.

I love how you guys with the over priced BMW tire and wheel warranty try to justify your decision. Most of you got more flats and bent rims in one year than most people do in a lifetime. If I live in New York city or Jersey City where they don't believe in fixing the roads, the T&W insurance might be worth it, other wise, fixing a flat cost $25 a tire and bent rims cost $150 to fix. Also, tire insurance can be bought at tire chain store for about $50 a tire.

Status Update:
Rim appears to be fine other than rubber marks from the tire. Getting a new front tire and Alignment to be safe. Total cost is about $700 when all is said and done. I went back and took a picture of the damaged road. This isn;t a pot hole but a totally fractured and degraded concrete slab. |

My tire insurance was worthless! They assumed I hit a pothole with no proof and said it's not covered. $500 for a new RF! I TOLD them no thanks!

Who is that with, the BMW road hazard clearly states potholes as being covered. See above post. Sorry to hear about the tire though. Better be extra careful with those new 21s.

That was I believe last year when my car went in for services. He pointed out the bubble on the side and said " u probably hit a pothole somewhere and unfortunately is not covered under your tire insurance."

You do realized Boston set a all time record for snow fall last winter. The unlucky few did have a blowout or two last winter, but its pretty hard to rack up $1500 in damage tire and rims. Most flats can be fix and rims can be repair. Like I said earlier, in order to rack up more than $1500 in damage, one might live next to a nail factory, have some of those god awful oversized rims or be extremely unlucky like yourself.

There are MAJOR safety issues with the GOODYEAR EAGLE LS2 tires fitted on the F10. I have changed 17 - yes you heard me right seventeen - tires.
Luckily i had the wheel and tire insurance and it was covered. I finally got them switched to Michelin AS and the ride is infinitely better. No more sidewall bubbles, bad grip and poor suspension travel. There are numerous complaints about it on NHTSA.gov. Replcae them ASAP. http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/owners/...od_ids=1284773 |

Just had my THIRD OEM tire replaced this week when I went in for regular service. That's three tires in 13k miles since new. The OEM tires are horrendous. I should have swapped them upon purchase (as I've done on past BMWs), but I figured I'd give them a shot - wrong move. If it wasn't for the fact that I'm thinking of moving on from the F10, and the other tires are in good shape, I'd swap them for a set of pilot sports (can't go wrong with them).
This past tire hadn't blown out, but as the OP's, it was bulging on the sidewall - no doubt from some kind of past impact. Absolutely replace it ASAP.
