Fair Price to Pay for 2013 5 series?

Folks, what do you think a fair price would be to pay for a 5 Series at this late time?

If I take delivery before 10/31/13 I'll receive $3500 back from BMW NA: $1000 Ultimate Drive, $1000 Loyalty and $1500 for buying a 2013 model.

The dealer needs to trade to get the car with the features I want. They already offered $500 over invoice, I know they'll go lower if I'm ready to pull the trigger.

Thanks in advance!

They are doing you a favor, and 500 bucks up or down will make $10.00 bucks difference in payments.

Not counting the $3500 that BMW NA would be "rebating", the dealer is offering $4000 off msrp. I'd normally be happy paying $500 over invoice, but that's what I paid for a special order X3 in the middle of the selling season from the same dealer.

A "new" 5 Series is really a year old because 2014's are on their lots now. Is it reasonable to expect to pay invoice to $500 under invoice? They have to trade with another dealer so I'm trying to be reasonable with them.

You should get better than $500 over invoice. That's what I paid for my 2014.

If they are having to trade with another dealer and you are getting what you truly want would you let 500 dollars break the deal?

7% off MSRP + all available incentives is the holy grail in my book. As I understand it this is true invoice and most dealers start kicking and screaming beyond 6%.

No you should get below 500 overinvoice you are right it is really a year old since the 14s are out plus it was a lci which should make them go even lower play hard ball if you can

How do you get 3500 back from BMW NA? Is there a form to fill out or something?

the $3500 should already be applied to your lease and is calculated into your lease price. you dont get a check in the mail for $3500

So you have to mention it to the sales manager for them to apply that? They never mentioned about this to me. Only told me about the 1500 loyalty

This calculation works. Take 92% of the base model. Take 91% of the options- round up/down to nearest $5. Add MACO- in NJ it's $300, in CA it's $380. Your State may be different. Add $180 training- may be the same everywhere; don't know for sure. Don't forget to add in Delivery/Destination charge; there's no discount on that, and you have the invoice amount. Negotiate on that price. Not sure why people negotiate down from MSRP.

There's a dealer holdback, monthly/quarterly/yearly incentives. So the dealer makes money on the sale in a variety of ways. I've always felt that $500 over invoice on a special order and car that is early in it's life cycle; e.g. buying a 2014 5 Series right now is a fair price. Dealer and sales guy make money, the consumer saves money and it's a clean deal. Just make sure that there aren't a bunch of BS charges: crazy high paperwork fees, first time buyer fee, pin striping, other add ons.

Yes, this is very true. If we're buying a 2013 car when the 2014 cars are on the lot, the vehicle is a year old- even though it has near 0 miles on it. If we're buying a 2013 car on that dealer's lot they have no extra shipping fees and no hassles. Huge extra incentive to sell it. I don't know what the exact $ should be, but I think up to $1000 under invoice is reasonable right now. If a few months go by and the 2014's start rolling in and you're not picky on colors/options, that's when a very sweet deal may be made on a leftover 2013. At some point the dealer has to move those 2013's and would be willing to go low.

I was looking for a specific 2013 and was considering having it shipped from another part of the country- that adds to the cost.

That's fair, but on the other hand let them kick and scream . My 2014 535i came in at 9% under MSRP before incentives. It really depends on how competitive your area is. In Southern California there are at least 10 dealers within 50 miles of my house, so it's extremely competitive. Find a dealer that's hungry enough, including looking for a smaller dealer a couple hours away from an area of stiff competition, and you can negotiate a sweet deal.
In a non-competitive environment, I like your numbers.

loyalty on a 5 series is $1k plus there is $1500 build out cash that is used as a rebate plus the $1000 ultimate drive coupon. most customers dont know about these but it should already be applied to your lease deal.

you should also ask about dealer incentives in addition to the BMW NA incentives for 2013 models. you might be able to receive 5%+ off invoice
