DINAN Tuning for 535
Does anyone have experience with Dinan tuning. I understand that it doesn't effect your warranty. Looks like about $7000 to reprogram with new chip as well as new exhaust etc. How does this compare with going with a 550. I don't need to know that I may as well just put the 7000 towards the 550 I am more interested just in feedback from people who have do it on other models. What are the drawbacks? Also how soon after model launch would dinan have the upgrades available....Thanks

At least in the U.S., the cost difference between the 535i and 550i is less than $7000 assuming you order ZPP and ZP2. The cost delta is slightly higher without those packages. Doesn't sound worth it to me. And even with the DINAN package, the 550i will still make more power.

Also consider: - 550i will likely be eventually tuneable - 550i has nicer exhaust tips (you may or may not care) - The DINAN mods will likely not add to your residual, while the 550i's residual will be higher than the 535i (not as a percentage, just $ figure) - DINAN may be different with BMW Canada in terms of warranty than the US |

550i Dinan increase
I'm interested in anyone that has experience with the dinan stage 1 on the 2011 550i. The car comes with 400 hp and 450 ft and dinan claims an increase to 496 hp and 573 ft torque.
So that is 24% increase in HP and 27% in torque. I dont' know the 0-60 on the 550 i think they say 4.8 sec at BMW, but they generally are quite conservative with their numbers... Also looking for the 1/4 mile times on the non-tuned and tuned 550i 2011. |

I had Dinan S2 on my 2008 E60 535xi. The power (increased of 90hp & 120lbft tq over stock) is amazing and I did not experience any problem with the flash at all. Got it done at Budds BMW Oakville.
Then this past summer, I test drove the 2011 550i and in comparing between this & my (Dinan flashed) 535xi, it felt like my 535xi has a much stronger push of power when it hits about 4K - 5K RPM but the power delivery of the 550 is extremely smooth right across all RPM which I much prefer. Therefore, I bought the 2011 550x drive by saving the hassle of having it tuned. Of course, I can always get it tuned by Dinan again for $3000US + HST + Labor = $3700 ... too steep for my pocket (for now) ! The only pain is every time the dealer worked on the car which involves updating the ECU software, it simply wipes out the Dinan flash and I would have to wait another 1 - 1.5hr more for them to do the reflash. There is no comparision on the market today to the 550 without spending a considerable amount more.

I'd take Dinan's power quotes with a grain of salt .... at best they're likely BHP/torque numbers. Still ..... cheap power (20% off till end of 2010 .... cost me $2400 + tax).
