Navigation update
Hi,
Has anyone dealt with the website www bmwnavigation co uk (I'm deliberately not putting a direct link in, as I'm not sure if it might be against some forum rules), and are they considered reputable? Is there a better/cheaper source of updates for an F10 pro nav (late 2012 520d) than them? Just to clarify, as I'm a little confused about these updates. When I update my sat-nav to the latest version (currently on 2013 version), will I get new features, like route magnet, auto-zoom, avoid areas, etc? Or do I need to update something else as well (like iDrive firmware) AND the sat-nav in order to get this? Or is it only available in newer cars than mine, regardless of any updates? Many thanks! Vlad. |

Updating the maps will not get you extra features. I used that company before for the old CCC updates but they didn't do CIC updates (with FSC code) unless it's a recent addition.

Perhaps a firmware update - not sure. However, the 2011 F10 I had previously had those features and that's older than yours. You only get the zoom etc if you're running in split screen tho.

I believe the extra features can be unlocked by coding.

Coding can enable a few extra features (these already exist in the firmware, but are disabled).
However, getting a new firmware update done to the HU_NBT module will get you the latest version of the Navigation System. This cannot be done by coding. Talk to your dealer - and he will do it for a fee. Once you have the latest firmware, coding can be used to enable a few extras

Can you give me a rough idea of the cost? Also, can you let us know which features can be enabled just by coding? BTW, have you used the company I mentioned in the original post, to buy navigation updates from, or is there a better/cheaper place to go to? Many thanks! |

By the way, for those who have it, how well does the gesture recognition on the later I-Drive controller work? Is it any good?

Yep does work well, but still usually quicker to just scroll to the contact you are looking for, or use voice control .. but for sat nav input can save some time .. I use it mainly to show off the gadgets in my car rather than actually use it day to day...!

Even though I'm left handed, it often can't read my chicken scratch, so as said above, I use it mainly for just showing off the tech, rather than as a function of the car.

Features enabled via coding: Difficult to quantify as such. Please have a read in the forums as to what can redone. It also depends on which firmware version you have, what build date of the car; not every feature gets enabled on every car. Here is a sheet that explains some of the coding possibilities. Ii have used these guys in the past. And the maps have worked each time without a hitch.

My March 2013 F10 (just before LCI) has got Pro Media but no Bluetooth options were specified (or available) but it has what I now take to be options. From my IPhone I can stream audio and album art via USB or Bluetooth.
My understanding that this functionality is now "enhanced Bluetooth" which is an extra option (or possible coding unlock) - is that correct? I don't use the BT streaming but I do use USB streaming from a permanently connected iPod touch which displays album art too. I've just ordered an F31, again with full Professional Media pack, but no other BT options. Will I still be able to stream audio and artwork via USB? Not to bothered about BT but I think I read somewhere that you need enhanced BT to stream USB as well. Can anyone confirm?
