Changes from March 2011
yup guys, BMW is turning into a KIA with mini-facelift (or in BMW language: mini-LCI changes) every 6 months. With the september production we had the combox, but with March 2011 we have the following changes:
1) 530d and 535i with xdrive -> ok can live with this as it is a not a change but an addition to the model line-up 2) HUD in colour as we know from the new 6 serires -> hmmm, interesting but not fuming it. 3) 530d with 258hp (for x-drive only, RWD will have the 245hp engine) -> ok I am getting a bit mad since my car (that is only 3 weeks old) is going to lose out big time on value because of this change 4) extended blackpanel as we know it from the 7 series and GT - why the F(§$ could not implement this change when they introduced the full black panel for the GT -> FUMING I love BMW, i love driving BMWs but I hate their model politics and their RFT policy!!! We are talking about a car that nearly costs as much as a small apartment; BMW - we are not in the computer industry where you need upgrades every 6 months!!!!!!!!!

I am fine with July build 550i which is a great car. I understand that a combox retrofit will be available in the Spring for pre-September 2010 builds. Hopefully this is true because i would enjoy that. Have you heard anything about this?

These are the only changes coming from march-production, how "sure" can you be at that? Where do you get the info? Heard anything about ascending prices, more standard equipment and more offerable colors? Individual range available? Having an F11 soon to go into production, I'm very keen to know It's a good thing that these announcements gets out in the forums before my dealer even knows of it. regards H |

Thank you for the link,
I'm not good at german, does this sentence below mean that there will be 2 individual colors AND 2 additional new metallic colors (non-individual) ? "Im Rahmen von BMW Individual wird es mit den Farben Champagner Quartz und Amazonitsilber zudem zwei neue Metallic-Lackierungen geben." Last edited by HFR; 12-16-2010 at 08:30 AM.. |

"As part of BMW Individual will be developed with the colors of champagne quartz and Amazonitsilber also two new metallic paint finishes"
(google translator) But ofcourse there are the deliberate vagueness and obfuscation of language which is deliberate The 530d 'needs' the bump up to 258hp from 240 because most people don't understand what horsepower or torque is, and having the 530xd below the 528i which is already at 258hp is a no-no from a marketing perspective (read: no one will buy).. but it misleading as hp is lower on diesels and one needs to look at torque for relevent comparison. Notice the 535xi does not get the hp bump - it does not need it for sales, and higher torque of the turbo gasoline can easily handle the extra weight of the 4wd. (Same for the 528i in NA and some other markets, downgraded to 240hp (but torque stays the same) to not steal sales from the 535i.. I believe performance is similar, just a few hundred rpms knocked off the high end to achieve the lower stated hp) rsyed, do you have a 530xd? if u have the 530d the new one stays the same hp so it shouldn't affect your directly, no? I have not seen the extended black panel, is it standard on the GT? Now that is just not fair. The GT is not that ugly, does it need this sweetener? The f10 display is a bit boring and dated with all that orange.. |

"Im Rahmen von BMW Individual wird es mit den Farben Champagner Quartz und Amazonitsilber zudem zwei neue Metallic-Lackierungen geben."
means. "With BMW Individual, there will be Champagne Quartz and Amazonit-Silver "as" (not "as well as") 2 new metallic colors." And yes, the extended BlackPanel ist standard on the GT, here you get a video of it. |

Nice video.. 'extended' is indeed a good description, it is one large rectangle which contains and exceeds the 2(or more) smaller sub-sections in the normal f10.
Saving something for the LCIs.. I used to pity those bmw drivers when you look over and see their orange dashboards at night.. now I am one of them |

I think it's stupid that just the 530d XDrive gets the hp bump.

not only. the numbers around all the gages also completely disappear at power off, so this is a real BlackPanel when switched off, unlike the one of the current F1x

Not sure what's changing with the HUD there. I have the HUD on a May production 535i. It's already in color. Amber for speed, green for Nav and Cruise, red for alerts.

Where did you hear this from? I don't think there will be a retrofit from BMW themselves. There will be a combox from the guys up in Canada though.

I guess the more important question is whether or not you are willing to wait another 4 or maybe even more months to get your new car. |
