is the f10 535 slow?
I'm about to sell my e60 535xi and get an f10. however, im concerned that even with a jb4 it still wont be fast enough. Has anybody gone from a e60 jb4 535 to an f10 535 with jb4? the dyno sheets ive found only show the f10 putting up around 310 even with meth and a downpipe, which seems a little on the low side. will I not be satisfied? Any advice is greatly appreciated im stuck here and have no clue what to due.

535i tuned is making less power than the 335i tuned with the n55 engine. I read this on the bms forums. Go with the 550i... that way you aren't getting smoked by v6 Honda Accords... example: |

to everyone who responded I appreciate the input. I actually test drove a 550 m sport today along with a 335 m sport and s4. the 550 was really fast but i felt disconnected/insulated from the car and the road, I'm sure this could be fixed with and exhaust and springs. The 335 felt very zippy, and the car looks great, but i didn't care much for the steering feel and the interior felt a little cheap, at least compared to the 5 series. The s4 pulled the hardest and had a great interior, but obviously wasn't nearly as comfortable as the f10, not to mention the conservative, almost boring design that audis have. Guess I have some decision making to do.

If you can find ActiveHybrid 5, it is faster than 535, and better gas mileage.
I just got one to replace my 528, and I just installed BMS Stage 1 on it. It is a crazy hybrid.

Accord coupe V6 (stock not like in the video) 3410 pound and 271hp / 254 tq (1/4 mile 14.5 average) 2014 BMW 535I xdrive 4187 pound and 302 hp / 295 tq ( 1/4 mile 13.9) 2008 BMW 535I xdrive 4042 pounds and 300hp / 300 tq (1/4 mile 14.0) I slightly modified 535I F10 xdrive (JB4, downpipe, 93 oct) should be faster than most even modified accords. But the fact remain than even if stock for stock F10 535I are equaly fast as previous gen 535I the N54 was getting better power gains for bolt-on type of tuning. If you want to be slightly more powerfull than V6 sedan get the 535 with Jb4 but if you want to dominate most sedan (exept M cars, RS cars and 63 Mercedes) get the 550 Last edited by Jayphil; 01-22-2015 at 03:03 PM.. |

If you are even asking this question the answer is Yes! That's not to say the 535 isn't a great vehicle or even that it's slow, however if you want performance out of a vehicle this size that's not what the 535 will deliver. If you like/need power and speed save yourself the disappointment and go for a 550! Just my opinion of course! Good luck with your decision!

The only positive I found on the S4, the trunk was HUGE.

535 aftermarket sucks... look at EVERY dyno graph and unfortunately even with the JB4, the power curve falls on its face at 5500 since the turbo is pretty much tapped from the factory. All the mods do is get the turbo to hit harder off the line, but once the car starts shifting it never leaves the "dead zone" of the turbo. My first BMW was a 2011 535xi and I loved it, but after quickly finding out its not like the N54 engines, the cool factor wore off that it would forever be a high 13 second car. As far as my 2011 550i, I get approximately 1 mpg less average than the 535 on the same commute, same roads, and nothing different other than I might drive like more of an asshole in the 550 because the torque kicks ass
That being said, BMS had some good results with the aftermarket turbos and wheel setups on the 535s that made solid power, but if youre going to dump 6K into all that, its likely the same difference to just get a 550 up front. My insurance is about $30 more a month, I get about 40 miles less per tank +/- (asshole factor again), payment went up $100 a month, but the payoff of having the N63 engine was worth it all for the roughly $150 a month more it costs to have this car. Ive never driven a 528, but when I get a loaner its usually a 2015 328 and I can average 36 mpg in that thing... best I can do now is 23 combined. No idea how the extra weight of the 5 series plays into that or how the power feels, but it was neat never filling up until I turned the car back in! |

I just noticed this is a 2 month old thread but I'll weigh in anyway. I'm not sure the OP is buying new or used, If used then its a no brainer. I bought a really clean June 2011 build 550ix with 35K miles for $32K yeah...It's a lot of money for a car that's almost 4 years old, but there is nothing like a V8. A 535 might have been a grand or two less I never even considered one.

I agree with most everyone here. If you're buying now I would go 550i to start. If you're like me and have the 535 already I would look into the Pure Turbo single turbo upgrade. It's $1000 for the turbo however it will make the biggest difference. You do need the JB4 for tuning but that's only about $500. I got a stage 2 used on here for $340. This is the upgrade I'm looking to do soon.

My friend has a 2014 535 which is tuned with JB4 stage 2, catless downpipe and some larger diameter exhaust going back to stock mufflers.
This car hauls ass boys, I think it's almost as fast as my 2008 E60 N54 was with JB4 and a few gallons of E85. I couldn't believe it when I had a ride, put a smile on my face. He's had a few runs against stock 550's and walks them. If you want a fast car and don't mind modding it, don't rule out the 535. |

Just so were on the same page, youre taking a N55 single turbo engine that makes just under 300 rwhp stock, and adding over 150 rear wheel horsepower with a JB4 and catless downpipe only?

im an owner of a f10 535. this was my first bmw with my previous car being an suv. the first few months i thought the power was impressive. i never drove the 550 but that was because i didnt feel like the extra power was necessary. the issue with the 535 and im sure with the 550 as well is the handling. i tried to fixed this with m5 sways and h&r springs and the results were much better, how the car should have come stock if you ask me.
after owning my car for about a year now i love my 535i. it has enough power, corners like a light and nimble 335 after the suspension mods and the inside looks much better than the 3 series. yes the after market mods kinda suck with the 535 but for those who dont look to go m performance krazy or tune nutz and like the subtle look, its a great car. im sure the next 5ers are going to be more performance mod oriented like the new 3s. maybe...... |

If we are talking about F10 550, I would agree with the other we need a video to believe it... |
