520d extended warranty
Hi all
My 2014 520d is due a warranty renewal in September and I've previously purchased the annual policy - comprehensive As the car is currently at 82k miles and climbing (doing 25-35k a year) I want to keep the warranty but I'm concerned about the 100k mileage limit... It states in the policy book that the mileage has to be below 100k at commencement of the policy... Am I correct in thinking that should I pay monthly instead it just continues to perpetually renew and the 'commencement date' is the initial date at which I took the policy out?(i.e. September 17) Or is there another extended warranty company people would recommend? Many thanks |

As far as I'm aware, extended BMW warranty is still an annual contract whether you're on single payment or monthly DD, so you will still be required to renew annually and declare your mileage.
How much is renewal with 82k mileage? |

The monthly one is on a month to month basis, so you can cancel whenever. I believe you are correct about the continual renewing but I'm sure the 100k limit would still apply.. I guess that means also when You hit 100k just stop paying and find an alternative (or a new car which may work out cheaper!!)

wow!
so,having just got off the phone to a lovely lady called Natalie at BMW insured services... Total Annual premium for my 520d SE LCI which is at 82k miles is £994.49 for a 12 month policy with 250 excess HOWEVER!! If i take the monthly premium of £101.26 the policy start date is 3rd september providing the vehicles mileage does not exceed 100,000 miles you can take out a new comprehensive policy once the vehicle mileage ticks over 100,000 miles - the ONLY thing you lose is the wear and tear component (the dealer would have to prove it failed under wear and tear...) you still retain cover on the driveline and all electrical components etc etc etc... so... my advice to people who want to keep the bmw warranty - just do it monthly even though it's a tiny bit more over the 12months and keep the policy rolling. my specific question to Natalie was: If in 2 years time, with the vehicle mileage being close to 150,000 miles my i-drive stops working or my gearbox packs in, will i be covered for both of these instances? her response was - under the assumption i'll be taking the monthly policy, provided they didnt fail as a result of wear and tear then yes they would be covered! granted £100/month is a fair amount but one of my friends has an f10 outside of warranty and he recently shelled out £2.5k+ for a R&R on a gearbox - and that was from a transmission specialist - not even BMW Seems to be these like to fail at high mileage - get in all the wear and tear claims before it hits 100,000 miles and then pray for the best after that! as its a monthly policy i can cancel at any time too |

So what is the advantage of a monthly rolling contract over renewing it every 12 months? When I enquired a couple of years ago I was told there was absolutely no difference, and no advantage of a rolling contract, it just costs more. I'll have to take out an extended warranty in January so forearmed is forewarned etc.
I'm assuming also from what has been said, that 60k is the first big kick in the teeth price wise, is that and 100k the only break points? |

Sounds like if you go for the monthly option and after 12 months the car has done over 100k miles, then you're OK, but if you pay up front, you won't be able to do it again a year later because the mileage limit has been exceeded?
Is that right? Not an issue for me, mine will have done about 85-88k when the warranty runs out and I won't be keeping it past its 4th birthday. I don't usually like paying for anything in instalments (apart from the PCP....), but the flexibility of cancelling at any time leaves my options open for an earlier change. |

I'll upload the prices they sent me last September in the morning when I'm at my computer
Basically... If you start the warranty on the 1st of Jan 2017 with mileage below 60k, you pay the rolling monthly fee of (for argument's sake) £50/month The 'date of inception' I'll be 1st of Jan 2017 despite it being a rolling contract What this means is, your mileage can rise as much as you want, all the way to a million miles if you wanted but because mileage was below 60k at point of policy inception, you've looked in the lower price... If you have comprehensive cover, you have this the entire duration that your paying the rolling monthly fee...the only change is at 100k miles where you lose the 'wear and tear' component If you buy the 12month annual policy on the 1st of Jan 2017 (<60k miles) you pay a lower fee.. Then 1st of Jan 2018 comes around, your mileage is 75k, you then pay more Then 1st of Jan 2018 come around, your at 105k and you can no longer purchase any warranty other than the basic driveline cover which has a limit of £5k on the claim amount.. This is because the cost and level of cover is reviewed at each point of policy inception This is what I've understood from the lady I spoke to today and reading the policy booklet. My advice if your <60k, get the rolling monthly comprehensive cover |

There were some lengthy threads on the e90 forum discussing this point so it is something I specifically queried, although in relation to the 60k breakpoint. I was advised that there would be an increase in premium at 60k regardless of how you choose to pay. Maybe an annual mileage declaration is required or there is something in the small print?

Be interesting to get this confirmed, I often wonder if the sales people tell you what you want to hear on the phone to sell it.. afterall a year later its your problem if it goes up in price not theirs..

Equally, if it's supposed to go up in price but doesn't because the 60k wasn't declared, I doubt you'll get much sympathy from the Mondial when they void the policy half way through a claim. This has been a subject for discussion for years, so we'd be pretty naive to think that Mondial are either oblivious to it, or don't mind losing a fortune in premiums
