Back to BMW... in a 535D
I took a 3 year hiatus from owning BMWs (previously owned E90 330xi, E39 M5, and E46M3).
But now because of long commutes and family priorities I picked up a 535D. Originally wanted M Sport with Harmon Kardon and Comfort seats, but realized I'd prefer more luxury now, and keep the sporting intentions for my future Z4M or Z4Sdrive35is. The diesel does have a slight 'industrial' sound when driving from a stop, but that's a very small trade off for the overall benefits (more mpg, more torque, longevity, resale value). I'll be adding the Bavsound speaker and subwoofer package in the summer. I just bought a spare tire and wheel to keep in the trunk (can't trust run flats). I'll be replacing the run flats as soon as it's time for tire replacement. Now here's my previous BMW lineup: And the current: Here's to the next 5 years of fun and headache lol |

I love mine! I got the comfort seats, M Sport, and cold weather pack. I've had very few problems, but some spendy ones... AC evaporator and EGR failures. These diesels are phenomenal. The Bridgestone driveguard have been awesome for me.

Sucks about the repairs but As long as it's proving reliable I'll stick with this for 200,000 Miles! |

Interesting that we've come from a similar ownership history...
E36 E46 M3 Convertible* E39 M5* E55 AMG (W211) E90 M3* F10 535* A sort of logical progression, although it would've looked better if I had bought an F10 M5 instead of the 535

His and her F10s will look real nice. And the W211 was a great choice. |

The E90, I felt, was fantastic to drive but the E39 felt much more comfortable and disciplined. Thoughts? |

As far as the E90 M was concerned, it was a fun car, but I felt like I had to keep it near the top of the rpm range constantly in order to pull the power out of it. It handled quicker, naturally, and felt tighter all around. Engine sound was comparable to the M5's, but the exhaust note and torque pull was no where near the 'wow' factor that came with the 5. Both great cars in their own right as all M cars tend to be. I had to take a break from the M's so I'd stop spending so much on repairs, preventive maintenance and worrying about the ever-present potential for rod bearing failure. I'll go back eventually...perhaps to an EAS M5

Would you go back to M3 E90? I mean in your list of cars. I have the 530xd F11 and kinda long sometimes for the small size and nimbliness of the E90. The sedan M3 E90 is one of my favourites.

At least until I bought the F10 diesel. Maybe I'm getting old but it's the perfect car for my lifestyle right now. My E39 will always be missed. That car was just so special. |

I wouldn't mind going back to an E90 M3, but it would have to be an LCI w/ DCT. (mine was an '08 w/ 6MT) I still prefer the interior of that car to the F80, esp. if you get one with the full leather dash.

Thanks for your input, yes the LCI is ergonomically better laid out inside also, with the controls in more logical place for example (on the doors). I actually dont care about lci or non lci tails. Just havinga coupe nose is such a sweetener. Ill have to keep looking, they arent exactly cheap anymore also.
