Stop / Start Button

Hi, got my 520d on Monday and today got to play a bit with it.

Under the Stop/Start button is a button I cannnot find reference to in the manual? It doesn't seem to make a difference when driving? Is it auto stop/start when in traffic?

Any pointers appreciated

cheers Andy

ps loving the car so far ....300 miles in!

It switches start/stop off...remember start/stop doesn't kick in until the outside temperature is above 3 degree's (I think), or when the engine is cold.

I found stop start bloody annoying on the 320 efficient dynamics i had for a few days... ended up turning it off!

Currently in the Midlands the day time temperature isn't getting above 3 degrees, so it doesn't start/stop anyway.

I do not have this "stop/start on my 550i M Sport. I just put the foot on the break once car stopped I press the off button keeping the break ON, when time to go press the start button and away I go.
I don't need any stop/start button.

Quite agree and I'm glad it's not a feature on my 535d.

Pretty sure it is only available on 520d model.

Yep I'm betting the outside temp has left it turned off.

I am sure in march it will be "rolled out" over the entire range if my memory serves me right, so all will have the option.

I think it has it's place if long stops are found, I shut the engine off at some traffic lights as they take some minutes to change. All in the mind!!! well maybe.

You're probably right and as long as it can be disabled it won't matter to those like me who dislike it.
I experienced it on a 520d and I found it quite disconcerting to have the engine die every time I stopped.
Like you I prefer to make my own decision as to when I want to switch off.
