Porsche & Audi have this kind of technology. Great handling technology for going around corners & curves at high speed.

I have spent the whole day reserching this and many googled items said that it did have 2011 x3 type torque vectoring, and some that said it did not because of the rear steering.I'm thinking that the rear steer is preventing an x6 type vectoring but hopeing that it still has the x3 type vectoring. Seems posible, can't be that the x3 is more fun than the 5er, that would be a crime!

I'm having difficulty understanding you. Please explain why you want to know the answer to this question

You are talking for an X-drive model? Haven't read anything myself on the 5-series getting the system, but have read up a lot on the subject, but no mention of saloons.

It's a brilliant system, far better than braking wheels and wasting energy to get an inferior traction control. Powering the wheel, makes so much sense.

Oh! Can you see Audi RS5 in your future ? It will have the latest tq vectoring sys. money can buy.

It features the first use of a new crown gear differential with electronically controlled clutch pack. The torque split can be varied from the nominal 40:60 front-to-rear to as much as 70 percent front or 85 percent rear

Are you moving from an Acura SH-AWD to something else? I drove an S4 with it (Sports Differential) and IMO the Acura works better. Too bad BMW does not offer one . . yet.

You should buy an X6M, it has the torque vector technology you seek.

I did not know that BMW does have a torque vectoring system available, thanks. However, I couldn't buy one of those - it's an SUV

HA! I just built my own $100K plus

From BMWblog 6/19/10and also from BMWUSANews.com the following..................... the new 5 Series, xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive has been updated to match the performance and character of the 7 Series xDrive models introduced last year. BMW’s Integrated Chassis Management (ICM) is able to identify and limit understeer by shifting torque rearward (initially 80% to the rear axle) while preserving the stability for which xDrive has been so widely recognized. As a second step, ICM can then apply a precise combination of throttle and individual rear-corner braking in order to maintain neutral handling in a corner - regardless of road surface conditions.

So unless I here different it appears as though this is the same system as on the x3
Part of flex ray I believe .If not ,someone please inform me.

This is shifting the torque front to rear and many cars have a bias sending more torque to the front wheels - so this is good. However, we are talking about distributing the torque from side to side as you go around a bend like on the Acura SH-AWD system where it can shift up to 100% of the torque to one rear wheel or the other.

IAS features 4-wheel steering which seems to me to accomplish the same effect in a different way. Try the active steering option. I find it really amazing in making the car drive feel more nimble.
