CA Power trunk sometimes doesn't open fully

Every so often when I open trunk (remote, foot or handle) the lid starts moving then stops at about 1/4 open. Second attempt the trunk opens fully.

Any idea or is this something service should handle?

I believe my dad said thus happens to his 2014 535d. Never happens in front of dealer though if course.
I think the dealer said it's not a known issue so can't really do anything.

I have a 2014 535d M Sport that every once in a while does the same thing. It works correctly 95 percent of the time........

Common problem with the 2016 F10. There's a service bulletin for it. Go to the dealership and ask them to fix it based on the information in the service bulletin. Make sure they look it up and don't just try random things.

I'm told the bulletin recommends possible adjustment and/or i-step update. Can you confirm?

would the update help if mine doesn't seem to work when I actually want it to? my CA trunk seems to only open on its own when I am under the car near the rear bumper. I can put my four there until the cows come home and nothing

Our 2016 F10 did it, we took it to the dealer and they found the bulletin related to the issue...they applied the "fix"...and it still does it. Granted it works fine about 95% of the time, but that 5% seems to always happen when we really NEED it to go all the way up! LOL

But I'm over it for now. I might mention it at the next oil change, but don't want to bother with another service visit just for that issue.

I haven't seen the bulletin however I'm told the bulletin asks dealers to first adjust the lock strike by 2mm down to put more pressure in the locked position. If that doesn't address the issue, next step is an Istep upgrade which from what I'm reading is the real fix.

Check with your dealer and see if the Istep update that came out April 2016 was applied to your car.

My 2016 F10 had this issue and it was very reproducible. I brought it in and they flash programmed with updated software. I have not had any issues since.
