What seats are going to be the best? I'm definitely planning on going.

Those are great shots! That start/finish straight...

Can't wait.

Anyone know how pit passes will work? I think they are run by FOM and not the track itself, so where would I go to get these?

Pit passes are usually given to sponsors or celebrities. You basically need to know someone who knows someone, at the least. They have to limit the number of people on pit lane, or else it turns into a zoo. OR, you can buy paddock passes (which are rather expensive).

However, some tracks have open 'pitwalks' on Thursdays.

I'm about to buy tickets... but which seating is best??? General admission seems cool because you can move around the track, but I'm not sure how the view will be at each corner... and how crowded those areas will get... The bleacher seats are great (Turns 6, 9, and 11 still available) but you don't get to move around... which tickets would you guys (those of you who are experienced in watching these races) recommend??? Thanks!!

I'm not sure you'd really want to be moving around. Certain areas will have big screens to allow you to see what is happening on other areas of the track. But the track area itself is like 3 miles long and the race will be less than 2 hours in duration. I think it would probably be more enjoyable if you just picked 1 spot and stayed there.

Ahh... ok... and what is the schedule for the 3 days... I tried looking but htere are no specifics... I only ask because due to work, I can't make it on the 16th, but I can make 17th and 18th... should that be adequate to see some good action???

3 days represent:

Fri 16 November 2012
Practice 1 10:00 - 11:30
Practice 2 14:00 - 15:30
Sat 17 November 2012
Practice 3 10:00 - 11:00
Qualifying 13:00
Sun 18 November 2012
Race 13:00

I personally would want to be sitting in front of a chicane so at least you can see the cars come through. What is the pricing like for turn 15 or 16?

FIA gives Austin seal of approval

We're good to go!!!
FIA approved the track about 2 months from race date.

Eat that Korea!!! Americans can run a project better than you!!! On or Ahead of schedule!!!

Quote:
FIA safety delegate Charlie Whiting has given the Circuit of the Americas his approval during his final track inspection before the US Grand Prix on November 18.

Whiting visited the circuit to ensure it is race-ready and came away from the visit enthused by the layout and quality of the track. After walking the 3.4-mile circuit and inspecting everything from kerbs to the crash barriers, Whiting passed the circuit with the necessary Grade 1 classification required for a Formula One race.

"Everything that I've seen so far has been absolutely first class, and the progress that's been made since the last time that I was here is amazing," Whiting said. "The guys have done an awesome job - it really is quite fantastic. It's built to the highest quality, exactly as we expected, and I've got absolutely no complaints whatsoever."

The circuit takes inspiration from several other venues with a high-speed section reminiscent of Silverstone's Maggots, Becketts and Chapel early in the lap. It also features several wide entries to corners to encourage overtaking, especially at turn one where the cars will also drive over a blind crest at the apex.

"There are three or four corners that are very likely to see overtaking," Whiting added. "If you look at Turn One, you'll see that the turns have been designed so that they're extremely wide and the apex is very short. It's a very modern approach to slow corners where we hope overtaking will take place. So I'm very confident it will work well.

"Turn One is awesome! It's the only word I can think of to describe it, and I think drivers and teams coming here for the first time will say the same thing."

I'll be there at Turn 11 West with some friends. Flying in from Boston for this. Went to my first F1 event in Montreal earlier this year, and I'm hooked.

Wife and I are going with another couple that is driving in from Alabama. Flying from Cincinnati to San Antonio and staying in San Antonio (free flights and hotel on points). We decided to buy the $200 parking pass ($100 per couple) so we don't have to drive into Austin to catch the bus. I guess anywhere they can make money they will.

Wonderful to see. I always knew that America could do F1 well. Now we just have to cross our fingers for the actual race day event.
