Finally - M5 Competition Exhaust installed on my 550i

Finally - M5 Competition Exhaust installed on my 550i

Finally got this done.

First some pics

I kept the stock 550i resonators (as I thought they were the stock CATs) which i was mistaken on

either way my shop cut the m5 competition package exhaust right behind the resonators and then welded on flanges and clamped it all down. This way the exhaust can be removed as 2 seperate pieces (it made it easier for him to fit everything up) You can see that in the last pic.

As you can see the stock diffuser doesn't work well

i have an m5 diffuser on its way, which i will have painted gloss black (thats where i'm leaning right now)

When i change out the diffuser i may go to bigger tips (still looking to see what i can find)

all in all i'm extremely pleased with the results!!

and it sounds great inside the car (very slight with the valves closed), when cruising at 1500 rpm.

but when i open the valves (i have the exhaust meister installed as well)

IT sounds beastly!!

I highly recommend this upgrade!

Sound clip below, all pics and vids done with iphone, with that clip if you listen closely i rev it 3x valves closed/open/closed.

Clip was made when car was warm. I'll do another one with cold start.

Youtube Clip here.

Looks sweet! I have the full M5 comp and M5 downpipes on my 550 and it all bolts up directly if you swap out the flanges that connect the DPs to the exhaust. Definitely a nice upgrade over the stock 550 system.

do you mind posting pics of your install?

What type of diffuser did you end up going with?

I don't have pics of the actual install, unfortunately. A few of the brackets and supporting pieces needed to be swapped with M parts, but everything bolted right up in the same location. I went with the oem M5 diffuser and had it color matched. All I have is a pic of the finished product.

I also installed some M6 competition package mufflers to my 535i and I just simply love the sound. It provides an oem sport sound which doesnt drone. I love to push the pedal to the metal and hear them.

Your ride sounds awesome. Grats to you!

did you do the mufflers only? or the entire exhaust, my 550 3 mufflers 2 at the back and 1 closer to the rear axle.

so now i only have 2 mufflers.

and yes i agree it gives a great sound without ANY drone inside the cabin.

cruising at 70 mph and 2k rpm and the radio on you can hardly hear anything.

however if i open the valves with the exhaust meister then you know its there

BTW nice diffuser!

The full competition package exhaust produces little to no drone and it sounds way better.
