Battery Drain - Dashcam Hardwire

Hi guys,

I wanted to install a dashcam. Originally, I wanted to simply plug it into the 12v charger slot under the passenger footwell. However on my car it is quite strange and the 12v plug in adaptor does not really fit in it properly, nor does any power come out.

So as a solution I think I will hardwire the dashcam. However, the camera I have has a 'parking mode'. This means that when the car is off it will continue to record when parked.

I wanted to know if anyone else has a similar style dashcam with the parking mode feature, and if that has caused excess battery drain issues.

Many Thanks

Might be a fuse. I tried using that outlet for something and found it wasn't powered; neither was the trunk or rear console outlets. Turns out I had a blown fuse. I don't remember which one (it was one in the trunk; #147, I think), but the associated fusses are 54, 65,108, 147 and 176. The 1st two are in the glove box, the others in the trunk.

I'm using passenger footwell 12v outlet for dashcam in my car. I think its stays on for 5-10min after car is turned off. no battery drain issue in mine so far.
Also you car might have a dummy 12v outlet as i read somewhere that not all F10s came with this passenger footwell 12v outlet.

I think you may be right as the passenger footwell one for mine does not really have the fit it should do.

Also do you think with the hardwired option and the camera was on all night. (Pretty much every night) would this have any long term damage to the battery?

Thanks

if I had to hardwire a dashcam I would use a fuse which DOESN"T stay ON at all after car is turned off (or the one which stays on for few minutes only).

Personally I wouldn't use a fuse which is always ON. our F10s are sensitive to energy usage. And IBS (Intelligent Battery System ) might trigger "increased battery discharge" warning if dashcam uses your car battery for prolonged period of time and drains it.
