Love BMW remote!!!

Today I parked my car on private mall parking went for lunch for 30 minutes and my car got towed. I called towing company and they told me that I have to pay 150$ to know location of my car. Instead I located my car with BMW remote and got it for free ))

Great!!!

Was it nearby or far away from where you were? I am asking because the tracking capabilities are supposed to work only if the car is within a radius of 1 km from where the BMW remote device is!

They could not do that here.
Many of the tracking systems we have to fit for insurance (due to Hijackings) allow us to track the car anywhere in the country via a text or via a online map.

Can even watch the car live on the online map if someone else ( like the kids) is driving it. Can see speed , route taken ect ect

The way I see it is that there are more users on Android but it is a much more fragmented platform due to all the different manufacturers/models. With iOS it is much easier to develop new, reliable apps.

Someone towed your car and asked you to pay $150 just to know the location of the vehicle, and you got the car back for free?

Sounds like a blackmail lol.

Glad you got it back for free, no way that will happen here in Vancouver!

it does at the airport man! got towed a while waiting for someone once and they just leave the car at some small area beside the airport that is unlocked, un-gated and unguarded. was pissed when i paid the guy to bring me to my car

They have written the Apps for Android and demonstrated them about 6 months ago and in their press release the said they would be available late 2011.

http://www.autoblog.com/2011/10/10/m...es-to-android/

But no signs of them. Rather annoying really as I use Android as my main phone - I thought they are bound to be available when my car gets delivered. Took delivery of the car Early Feb so then had to go and buy a second hand iphone just because there is no support for Android released yet. Now have to carry two phones!!

Come on BMW release the Apps for android as promised and the SDK while your about it.

It has to be within a certain distance to track the car using the app. If its more than 2 miles or so it will say "unable to locate for privacy reason". I know this because I tried to track my car when my Gf took it out for a spin.

Would you mind sharing the specifics—brand, model, etc—on the system you have installed? I might be interested in getting one for my car…

Now call them and ask for your car. That should make them a little concerned.
