Yes, because you don't sit in the middle of the car.

It's probably so that they can use a motor with the same range of movement in each mirror. If both mirror housings were set at the same angle the passenger side motor would need a greater range of movement to get an accurate viewing angle...

First noticed this on a Porsche 944T that I owned many years ago. Have noticed this on many many cars over the years. Gotta agree with Remmib. You don't sit in the middle of the car so therefore the angle must need to be different to get proper view next/behind you.

Well I guess i just became a little more observant in my quest to learn new things about my 5 Series. But yes even today I checked an F30 and it had different angles. So I must've just been oblivious all these years.

That's to compensate for the angle of the mirror glass, so it doesn't leave a gap between the glass and the housing edge
If the housing was angled the same on both sides but one mirror glass was angled steeper towards the driver, the glass would protude outwards |

Pretty common on many cars. On my 1986 Porsche, not only are the mirrors angled differently, they are also mounted in different positions to give the best view to the driver through the vent windows. The driver's side mirror is mounted about 4" more forward than the passenger's side mirror.
