Thumbs up Eisenmann "Race" Installed on my F10 2011 550i xDrive...initial impressions...

Hey everyone. New to the group and new to F10s. I've owned lots of BMWs in the past, however just recently got back into BMWs after owning a few Lexus, Mercedes, and Audi vehicles.

I wanted to express my opinion and initial worry about getting an Eisenmann exhaust on my new-to-me F10.

At first, I was a little worried that the "race" version of the exhaust on my F10 550i was going to be too loud. The clips on YouTube and other places on the internet were hard to hear and didn't bring the true acoustics across.

I went ahead and ordered the exhaust from IND Distribution and was told that the exhaust was in stock and available for install almost immediately. I'm local to IND so I scheduled the install with their friendly staff quickly. Also, I was able to add a 3D Design Carbon Fiber spoiler (http://ind-distribution.com/ind/bran...-trunk-spoiler) to my order along w/ their cosmetics package (http://ind-distribution.com/ind/bran...reflectors-944).

After initially getting it installed, I along with my wife thought it was loud, however very quickly I started to like it more and more. Now a week into it, I can't imagine NOT having the rumble and aggressive tone that this car deserves for the amount of power it puts out. Every day so far, it's been putting a smile on my face every time I hit the "Start" button on the car and every day the value of the sound seems to be increasing.

The only downside to the exhaust that I can find is a drone at around 1,700 - 2,000 RPM which is easily corrected by putting the car's transmission into Sport mode. By doing that, you increase the fun and enjoy more of the sound so at the end of the day the drone can be interpreted as a positive!

Next up...just ordered the M Performance body kit and H&R springs for my car and scheduled for installation next week w/ the boys at IND...can't wait!

Pics will be coming shortly along w/ a proper sound clip.

Congrats on the new car and mods Reboot.

I completely agree with you on the Eisenmann Race... sounds great, but that drone right around 2K... it can get to you after long drives. I spend most long drives in 7th gear... keeps the RPMs just over 2K and no drone.

Love it!

Good luck with the new car.

I keep my car in sport all the time anyway so it isn't a point for me. After 24 mos w/Eissenman Race and Dinan Stage 5 the car is great...best mod I could have done. Recent dyno meet folks say it sounded great! Definitely transforms the car BMW made...much too quiet from stock.

It's good that you went with 'race' version. The other one is very identical to stock exhaust imo. I agree with the drone but I'm 99% of the time in sport+ mode so it doesn't bother me at all. Those who prefer comfort mode should stay away from this exhaust.

Yeah dyno'd it about 2.5 weeks ago. Torque curve was flat across the curve with tons of low end torque that stays all the way up to max PRMs and then starts to drop off. I think made about 400+ some HP at my best run due to a lot of wheels spin and loss I was reported as having! Putting down the Dinan Stage 5 power tended to overcome my rubber on a few runs especially with traction control disengaged. However when I can get things hookup I am running about a sub 5 sec 0-60 time (last best was 4.4 secs)

I'm myself down to this exhaust or the Miesterschaft for my F10. Good to hear positive reviews on this. I always drive around town (with my commute of 5.3 miles lol) in Sport or Sport+ so shouldn't be a huge deal. This is almost half of the M-S though, which is something to consider.

If I remember history correct, the company that makes the MS exhaust was the same company which got busted years ago selling fake Eisenmann exhausts as the primary US dealer. They were getting their exhausts made in Korea or Vietnam. After they got busted, they stopped selling Eisenmann after a lawsuit.

From my understanding the MS exhausts are still made in Korea or somewhere around there and that was my justification for going w/ Eisenmann. I spent a lot of money on a gorgeous well made German car, I'm not putting cheap crap that costs lots of money on it. Take a look at the Eisenmann factory tour...that made my decision.

After hearing the IND F10 M5...I almost want my exhaust to be a tad louder!!

Bravo...same here. Three of my last 4 BMW's have all had Eisenmann exhausts! Only other one was a Supersprint on my Z4M and it was good too. They too make a quality product. MS sound great and folks swear by them but they are loud and kinda of obnoxious to a degree which only the remote valves mitigate and just didn't need that much attention from my family, wife, neighbors, or the police with the car. Eisenmann while expensive makes OEM stuff for Porsche and BMW and that says a lot. As you note...you get what you pay for really and this is not some Nissan or Toyota mod wise. GL with your decision.

That's good info to know and steers me more towards where I was going anyway. This is the first car I've had (mostly F150's and SUV's before this) that I've considered modding/putting aftermarket items on it, so I want to do it right.
So far I've got this exhaust plus some AR catted DP's going in first. AR claims a negligible 5HP~ difference in catted/catless, so being a n00b to all this the one throwing the fewest or no codes is most helpful!

Glad I found this thread!

I've got a 2011 550i M Sport and have always thought the stock exhaust was anemic (at best) and a poor match for the performance capabilities of our engines.

After an "exhaustive" (sorry, but I couldn't resist) amount of research and listening to as many clips as I could find on YouTube, I've narrowed my choice down to either the Eisenmann Sport or Race system. I'm leaning toward the Race version, mostly from what I've read and what the two local performance shops I've been dealing with have recommended (with 95+% of 550i owners apparently opting for the Race version).

But I'm still a bit concerned that the interior noise might be too loud on freeway drives (with the windows up, and music at a conversational level). Any thoughts? Also, have any of you heard the Sport version in person on one of our cars, and if so, is it true that it's basically the same as the OEM exhaust?

Can you please advise if you opted to have the Eisenmann exhaust installed with the included clamp kit, or if you had them welded on instead? Finally, have any of you experienced the dreaded "power train malfunction" iDrive notification (reported by other Bimmer owners with performance exhaust upgrades) after the installation of your Eisenmann system?

For what it's worth, most of my city driving is with the windows open and both the tranny & suspension in "Sport" mode. On the freeway, it's windows up and a/c blowing.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated, especially now that you've all lived with your Race exhaust systems for several months.

Thanks!

if your looking for performance, an axle back wouldnt do much towards that, you would need a whole exhaust from downpipes back, of at least 3" piping.

I did Eissenman Race and have been very happy. So much that I may upgrade to another BMW by months end and if so will be pulling my Eisenman from my 550i to either retrofit it to the new 6 series OR sell it on the forums to a new owner so I can get ANOTHER one for the 6 series if needed. Great exhaust...my 3rd BMW with one...definitely not my last.

I just picked up my 2015 550xi with Eisenmann Sport, it's great! I've only had it a few days, I almost worried it was too loud (this my daily driver) but it's just perfect. Nice rumble at idle, throaty but not obnoxious under acceleration. I can hear that awesome V8 in kind a classy way, if you see what I mean. Highly recommended.

Probably wouldn't be worth it. You should get a system that already has them.
