New member, new car!

Hi guys,

Just thought I'd create a quick thread to introduce myself!

I'm a long term lurker on the forum as I previously owned an E60 520d and found the forum a great resource- it helped diagnose the dreaded EGR thermostat issue, which my local dealer initially refuted, until I showed them the running temps thanks to the hidden menu read outs! And finally ended up with me getting it replaced under warranty, phew!

After owning the E60 for a couple of years I emigrated over to Gibraltar for two years, with no real need for a car other than to go exploring sand dunes in Spain (a 1993 Toyota Hilux Surf was the unfortunate victim!). Now I'm back in the UK and am fortunate enough to be able to order a company car.

Each month the company car list has a few more additions to it, so I patiently waited as one by one the 518d, 518d auto, 520d and finally the 520d auto appeared on the list.

I've finally pulled the trigger and got my order in yesterday for the 520d auto, spec as follows:

BMW 520d Saloon 2.0 SE LCI Auto
Colour: Jet Black
Trim: Cinnamon Brown - Lc Dakota Leather
534 Auto Air Con With Extended Features
320 Model Designation Deletion
Znp Media Package - BMW Professional
761 Sun Protection Glass
441 Delete Smokers Pack
4UR Ambient Lighting

I know that the choice of interior my not be to everyone's taste, but I just fancied something that would add a little contrast the black exterior and previously had the beige leathers in my old E60, so was ready for a change!

I look forward to becoming a much more active member of the community and will report back as I get the lead time and delivery date confirmed!

tl;dr version: I'm a new member who just ordered a new car.

You'll not be dissapointed and the interior sounds nice. I've just racked up 3,000 miles in mine (520d MSport) since getting it at the end of October and I love it.

Don't forget to get some pictures up when you take delivery. One thing, most (although not all) people like the new Multifunction display, its worth seeing it if you can, I cahnged my order at the last minute to include it and I'm glad I did. Just thought it

Thanks Beancounter - I'll head back down to the dealer and try and get a demo! I do have a soft spot for gadgets and was tempted by the display when I saw it in the brochure, but I tried to avoid seeing it in the flesh because I know I'd end up buying it if I do!

Just seen the pics you've put up, that interior looks very nice

Another thing that a few have picked up on, if you want to stream music via BlueTooth, you'll need the extended BlueTooth option as well as Prof Nav (was standard on Prof Nav on the E60 apparantly), but now it's a £350 option, something you may regret if you wanted it as a few on here have done.

Wow - I can't deny that the multifunction display is gorgeous! The trouble is, I'm already £2k out of pocket on options, and with it being a company car I'm reluctant to spend more on it (although I do have the option to purchase at the end of the contract - and now I'm trying to justify getting the display to myself!)

I'd read about the lack of BlueTooth audio streaming on the forum previously and can't believe it's not part of the prof nav, it would certainly be a nice feature to have, but at £350 I think I'll just stick with the cable! Grr!

I'm in cinnamon, it is a bit different, looks classy. The configurator colour is not very accurate for colour tones. Have you seen the actual colour? Even pictures are not too accurate, here is one of my interior, gives something near the colour hue.

I went to my local dealer over the weekend which carries a lot of stock on site, and they told me they didn't have a single cinnamon brown available across any model (apparently it's also available in the X5?) - somewhat frustrated and worried that I wasn't going to be able to see it in the flesh before I ordered, I walked out through the used car section, and there was a F11 with cinnamon sat right there!

I grabbed the keys and had a good look around inside, and instantly knew I'd made the right decision!

I think the black carpets set it off lovely! - Do you have the ambient lighting option - I was wondering how you find it works with the darker leather?

Agree, just the right balance of colour. Re the ambient lighting, posted this comment in the ambient thread.

What I have noticed, driving mostly on unlit roads, it is obviously much more noticeable and becomes far more special.

Just the other evening I was driving through the great glen, full moon, adaptive lights doing their thing, N55 engine running like a dream, the ambient lighting just made the whole driving experience so much more enjoyable. A 5-series is one good place to be.

I definitely DO NOT have "Enhanced Bluetooth" I just have professional media but I definitely CAN stream music from my iPhone over Bluetooth.

Active LED lights.

Haha - I know exactly what you mean, you could get very carried away with the spec!

I get my dates confirmed on Wednesday, so will report back then - I bet you can't wait until you get yours, how long was the total lead time you were given?

As it's a company car there isn't a discount as such as I just pay the company car tax, but I did get 23% discount on the options which was a nice surprise as I didn't know until I was invoiced!

Okay delivery update: I know it's vague, but the leasing company have given me an expected delivery of 'mid March' so ~8 weeks, seems a little soon, but miracles do happen!

Lead time was - 'we have lots of build slots, and guarantee delivery by 1st March' and I re-ordered the car last week.

I just read your discount thread; glad you managed to squeeze them for some more and still got a good delivery date!

The lease company my work uses is based in Leeds, so I'm wondering if they're going through the same dealer with my expected deliver date just a couple of weeks after yours!?

Good choice Hodgy.

Like you I came from an E60, space grey with black leather. Got a space grey with oyster now, 2.5k miles into it. Awesome

I did go with ambient, MFD and extended bluetooth though

Mind you I seem to have paid more than most on here, so swings and roundabouts!!

I was very close to going cinnamon with mine, not had oyster before so was swayed when I saw it!!

You have a great spec Piers! I love the oyster/black combo, but unfortunately that wasn't an option on the SE (the only trim available on the car list). I'm certainly tempted by the MFD, might have to make a phone all in the morning!!

Zenith provide all company cars at our place too - I opted for the £. Made for a better deal.
Funny, I was looking at sytner deals last night and see that Sytner Sheffield have an excellent deal on for a new 530d M Sport (Auto & prof sat nav)with nearly £8k knocked off.

I love the oyster/black combo, but unfortunately that wasn't an option on the SE (the only trim available on the car list).
