JB4 Stage 2 installed! A Must have for all F10 535i!

Recently I been Fed up with waiting for Dinan to release a tune for F10 535i, along with feeling the need for more power, I decided to go with the JB4 stage 2 tune from Burger Motorsports.
From the Dyno Ive seen I figure this would be a slight barely noticeable improvement on the car, but Boy was I wrong! The tune blew my mind away! Completely off my head and into Outer space! I can not believe how an inexpensive little box could change the car so much.

Pros:
- My biggest complaint against the F10 5 series was the throttle response. The car while smooth is very lazy on the throttle. There is a half second delay between stomping on the gas and the actually car moving. Sometimes you would even fall behind traffic because of it. This tune completely changed it. The car suddenly becomes a lot more responsive. At the lightest touch of gas, the car would start moving. It actually made the 535i felt like my F30 335i. Its as if the car lost 500 lbs!
- Installation was really easy. The installation really only took 5 minutes. Most of the cables are just plug and play. Some slots were a little hard to reach, but no big deal. People were complaining how the stage 2 has to tap in 2 wires. But Terry has included some nice little tool so it goes unnoticeable. (Props to Terry Burger who personally installed the tune for me )
- The price is perfect. Unlike the $3k to $4k 550i tune charge by Dinan. The Burger tune is only $529. For the improvement, this price is completely reasonable. Wouldnt mind paying twice as much to be honest.
- And of course, Power. According to the Burger Website, the N55 JB4 stage 2 tune gives +80HP and +100lb torque. Does it feel like it? You bet your ass it does! In Sports or Manual Shift, the car accelerates violently. At full throttle, the traction control would kick in every time. I cant even open it up around town now, because how fast it accelerates. It makes the car feel like a muscle car, like the car has 400HP! (At least my butt dyno tells me it does )

Cons:
- There are one or two cons about the tune. One thing many people would be disappointed to hear is the Turbo Lag didnt go away. I guess its impossible to get rid of it since even the M5 have it. But it is minimized with the tune. You cant really feel it unless you stomp it full throttle suddenly.
- Burger is still working on adding some of the features to the tune, such as on dash map changing, etc. The only way to change the map now is to use a USB cable and Laptop, no biggie

So in the end, I would recommend the tune to all F10 535i owners. I would go to even say it is a must have. Even if you dont need the extra power, the tune makes the car so much more responsive and easier to drive around town. On highway too, since the car accelerate much quicker, which allows much easier lane change and passing.
Im in love with the tune.

Nice... new 535i owner here... quick questions.

You need to have stage 1 first right? Also, you don't need special tools for the install correct? (I have an AF mechanic background and IT background) Could I handle the install?

Lastly, is it easily removable for trips to the dealership?

Not really. You can order the stage 1 and stage 2 add on kit on their website. It comes out to the same price as just ordering stage 2 by itself. They just want you to do that because some early F10 don't have the wires to use stage 2.

No special tools needed. It's all plug and play. Most of the cables are connected similar to how you plug in a USB cable. You don't even need to unscrew anything. The only difficult part is some ports are hard to reach. Oh a wench is needed though to connect the device to the battery.

So yes it is easy to uninstall for dealer trips. But if you install it right, you may not even have to take out the tune. Because the wires looks they belong there. LOL

I am OK with mine in terms of performance. I am really disappointed about Burger Tuning and any improvement to the JB4. I don't think we will get to see the steering wheel interface because Burger says they have not sold enough 535 tunes. Also, on later model 535's, there is no way I have found to get the USB cable into the interior. It would be great to be able to run the log while actually driving the car somewhere.....

JB4 is awesome, you might even be able to keep up with 550is and M5s because you are lighter! Enjoy

Official numbers from BMW website

stock 535i 0-100km is 5.9 seconds
stock 550i 0-100km is 5.0 seconds
stock M5 0-100km is 4.3 seconds

Looking at the dyno sheets so far of JB4 and if the official numbers match actual runs then I believe it will shave off some seconds to make it something like 5.5/5.6 for 0-100km..you will not be able to keep up with 550i..forget M5

There are definitely a ton more torque now. A whole 400+lbs-ft of them.
So 0-100km in 5.5 seconds sounds about right.
That is 0-60mph in about 5.3 seconds.
The car would be able to keep up with 335i.
That is pretty impressive for a 2 ton 6 cylinder sedan.

I'm really interested if it can reduce throttle lag. Is there an installer in So Cal?

Dealer can't really find it?

Do not leave the tune in when you go to the dealership.. That's probably the dumbest thing one can do. Dealers are not stupid, they know where to look for piggy backs.

I think actual power to the wheels on the F10 535 platform is significantly less than that. You can look at the dyno's posted here to confirm. The tune does however, certainly help the car quite a bit.

Correct!
Those 80/100 numbers are from the E9x N55 powered cars. Unfortunately with the new DME and other aspects the stage 2 tune on our F10 is only gaining a little over 40hp.

there is much more potential with proper tuning - unfortunately, there is also the risk of being left out in the cold as well given the amount of attention given to the F30..... but for the price/ease of install, the JB is certainly a compelling option for now.
