It may fit the 535i, but we need to take a closer look to be certain. It fits my 550i in front and we are looking to test fit the rear soon. We can source the front bar for about $300.

Would any dealer be able to get this part? I'm in Orange County and would like to add this to my 2012 550.

I've ordered the sway bar from joe@ptech. Dealer pricing was 30% more than his and his price included shipping.

Will report back once I get it installed.

Rear bar doesn't work without some work. So for now the front bar is what we have for sale. It includes the brackets for mounting. Price is about $285.

Joe: Can you describe what difference, if any, the front bar would make in the handling of a 2012 BMW 550i M-Sport? My concern is that sway bars (or a rear sway bar in this case) are just one component in a balanced suspension system (springs, struts, shocks and bars) and that changing only one component may not yield an improvement.

Thank you for your thoughts!

We attempted to get the rear to work, but the links are not lining up. I agree that the whole system is working together, so I do plan to add a rear bar at some point when available.

I don't expect a car this large to handle that well when thown around a canyon run or even the track. But higher speed turn in the car felt like it was pushing or plowing a bit with the stock bars and just H&R Springs, if that makes sense. The added front bar improved that plowing feeling and the inner wheel at turn in felt more planted. I noticed I could increase my speed and experienced more control with the car.

Our next step is to add the Dinan EDC software that just came out. That will further improve handling.

Thanks for the update, Joe. My concern is body roll. I have ACS springs (no ARS) on my 535. The body roll is still very noticeable compared to my stock sport-package E46.

Any comment in term body roll with front bar only?

I like to know how much to ship to HK and will it fit my 2012 528i?

Any update on the Rear M5 bar?

Hi Joe,
Any news on the rear bar yet? I'd really like to do both front and rear at the same time.
Thanks,
Edgar

Got the M5 sway bar on the car now. I'm not sure how much I notice the difference. This is more because I just had KW V3 coilovers put on last week so my comparison isn't fair. I will say however, the car is a totally different animal then it was before. The roll is gone!

Can anyone check to see if the 550rwd front sway bar is the same as a 535awd?

This M5 sway bar could be the missing link for me. Even with the ACS springs and in sport mode the car still sway just alittle too much for me.

According to realoem.com, the part numbers are different. The picture look alike for both bars (on non ARS cars) so my guess is the spec for the 550i bar might be slightly different. Even so, I think all non ARS F10 cars sway and roll too much and a set of M5 bars (front and especially the REAR) would help greatly.

Maybe Joe at PTech will come up with something for the rear M5 bar soon. Perhaps some aftermarket adjustable sway bar links would help the M5 bar line up?

If M5 sway bar does not work, we should look at this alternative http://f10.5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=791280

Some info that should help you 535i guys. The 550i and 535i share the same standard suspension front sway bar according to realoem.com so that means if the M5 bar fits the 550i, it will also fit the 535i.

Now the biggest question is will it also fit xdrive cars.

Joe@ptech,

Did you only use the M5 sway bar which comes with the rubber insert or did you also need the brackets/bolts as well. The part numbers for those are different as well.

We used the front M5 bar with the included bushings/brackets and reused the stock 550 mounting hardware. The rear bar is not going to work well since the links seem too far stretched. This will likely counter any added benefit of the larger bar. But I am still trying to figure something out. Front bar will fit 535i and 550i, but not with active steering and I don't believe xDrive. We have a customer with xDrive I am still waiting to compare with, but that may be another week or so.

The Dinan "Shockware" made a huge difference and I now feel the car is well balanced.

As for the rear bar look into the F07 550GT or the F10 M550dX.

Both of them offer thicker bars based on my research so far. I think the stock rear bar is 14mm and the m550dx is 16mm and the 550GT is 18mm!
