After using E90 for almost 3 years I am planning for an upgrade and most likely its gonna be a used 2013-2014 520D/I (ok with gas or disel) basis my budget and avalibility (I live in Philippines and hardly anything apart from 520's are available in 5 series). E90 gave me a good run (was a 2012 used model), but as always there were some common issues, and I am sure F10 also has its own tale to tell.

I have narrowed down on 5-6 units (direct owners) and before I close a deal I want to give few days more to take any expert advise and comments on common problems and concerns on F10. Would appreciate if experts could also indicate how to look for common (specific) problems on these models.

If you go for diesel check the status of dpf and egr systems. Also make sure the timing chain is checked or replaced. These are the most common issues on N47 engines.
Of course a lot depends on mileage. Good luck!

For sure the dieselheads are minority in this forum anyway, the bmw diesels are great!

Hi, i just bought a 520d, but with the B47.

Does this engine also have these issues?

How to check the status? Onboard diagnosis?
