N55 with Xpipe

Hey guys,

I currently have M5 mufflers on my N55 535i which are really good but I want a little louder without the massive drone (hence why I didn't just do a muffler delete). I've been thinking about doing xpipe to replace my resonators. Just had a few questions like..
  • Anyone have feedback after installing it?
  • Did you buy your xpipe or did the muffler shop make it?

Thank you,

I actually am running that set up right now. I had m5 competition package mufflers installed first but thought the sound was a little too quiet. I had my muffler shop install a custom x pipe and it sounds better now. Still a little quiet but more rumble for sure without as much drone. You should definitely try it.

So we I looked underneath my car (535 as you know) and our exhaust system goes from single downpipe to a y then to mufflers on each side. So by placing a x or h pipe may be a moot point. Interesting idea though. Could act as harmonic resonator.

I had the valves closed on my m5 muffler because the cold start with opened valves were too loud for 4AM start up. Could be normal but I thought the exhaust were too loud with both valves opened. At rpm <1800 would produce significant harmonic vibration so I made a brace between the weld spots which seem to help with the vibrations. I was searching for ways to make valves functional ie open at higher rpm but it was more work than I was willing to take on. Let us know how it goes!

Was it hard for them to make it?

I'm debating changing up my exhaust now. I currently have M5 mufflers. I'm thinking about replacing resonators with x pipe and a muffler delete all at once.

Thoughts?

Don't do a muffler delete, you'll regret it. Stick with the M5 mufflers and chop your resonator off. We have an inline 6 so X pipe or straight pipe won't make a difference. Exhaust scavenging is more for V style engines.

Let me know when you find a Seattle shop that does it. I'm interested in doing this also. Thanks!

I've heard quite a few guys eliminating/upgrading their xpipe with drone issues afterwards. Going DP's is probably your best bet
