Bent my Rims...

So i've had my aftermarket wheels for about 3000 miles and managed to bend both passgener front and rear wheels.

I have hit a pothole or two here in San Diego but nothing that made me pull over and say "sh*t I hope my rims are ok". I must say I have not been impressed with the quailty of my wheels...

ANYHOW.. Has anyone ever had bent rims repaired? I went two several repair shops and they all stated they heat the rim and bend them back into place. My concern is that they said the finsh might turn yellow since they are polished and clear coated. Anyone ever had a rim of this type repaired? How does the clearcoat look when resprayed?

TIA,

CT

Wheels are straightened and refinished every day. Most are not heated to get straight - that can change the molecular structure of the metal. However, minor cracks can be welded before refinishing.

Ask for recommendations on the forum or even ask your BMW dealer. They might know shops that can restore the wheel to "like new" condition. In fact, every now and then my dealer runs a $99 "special" for repairs. And in many metro areas some mobil repair and refinish operations can do the repair at your place of work or your home.

The rims were AG M368.. good looking wheel but I've had bad luck. Pitting and 2 bent... I dont drive anywhere crazy. This is my personal experience with this brand, they could be good to go for other owners.

I found a shop here in San Diego that will repair and refinsh the wheels for 100 each. I feel like these rims are more on the softer side.

Wheel Repair

The guy @ the shop is correct. You will need to heat the wheel so that it doesn't crack when it's being bent. It will not be true, but if the bend isn't bad, nobody will notice, and you will see stress marks in the clear coat so you should have the shop re-polish then clear coat the lips.

Buy cheap wheels... get cheap wheels.

I can't believe you're thinking of fixing them to put back on your car.

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."
