I have an annoying door rattle, not the door lock pin. Looking to see if anyone has experienced a similar rattle. Sounds like it comes from within the drivers door, towards the front. I don’t think it’s the lower dash. Kind of sounds like if comes from within the speaker? Is that possible? Sounds kind of springy. I love the car to death but the rattle drives me insane. If anyone has experienced this or has ideas please let me know!

Try this, open your door, with the window all the way down, holding the door close handle and swing gently to near close, pivot it open and close and feel and hear for any vibrations or sounds, then try it with your window up, Has your car have any recorded history with part replacements to your door/power door lock or window assembly?

As far as I know, the driver door card hasn’t been removed ever. Same noise with window up or down. To me it really sounds like it’s from within the midrange speaker. I can’t replicate it from moving the door, it’s only a noise that comes up over bumps in the road.

There are bulletins out there pertaining to adding stick on patches of foam and whatnot to stop bowden cables and such from flapping around when closing the door and such but it sounds like your issue is with vertical bumps from road surface while driving.

At this point I would be inclined to pull the door card and look inside. Posting on forums isn't going to tell you what it is. Could be a wire harness come unfastened or who knows what. Especially if the car is "new to you" (which you haven't specified).

The thing I would check first is that it isn't something in (or stuck behind) the low compartment to the left of the steering wheel. I keep sunglasses in there and sometimes those rattle or clunk in my compartment and need a quick adjustment. It's possible from a previous owner or something long forgotten that some object could have found it's way in there. If it only makes sound while you're in the act of driving, noise from that compartment would sound the same as the speaker at the front of the door.

Thanks for the response. I’ve had the car for about 8 months. I think you are right that my best bet is to take the door panel off and figure it out. I have some stuff in the compartment next to the steering wheel, but that’s not the cause of the noise.

Could be any number of surprises in new-to-you cars, unfortunately.

Thump the dash under that compartment with your palm - even though there's nothing in it, there could be something that got behind it. No need to take the door card off if you have a ventriloquist quarter taunting you from an entirely different area of the car.

I would first remove all loose things (including anything in glove compartment, etc.) as I have found sound travels very randomly in the F10 and where you think it is coming from, or not coming from, may be wrong. Once that is ruled out completely, visibly check the engine bay for anything that should be secured but is not. Do the same with the trunk. Then if the sound and sound location has not changed, then look at removing the door panel.

i came across a thread on this a few months back but i have something similar and seems to be more pronounced in the colder months. i read somewhere that it was the plastic clips in the door that rattle...

It took me a couple years to isolate driver door noise. Took the door card out probably 15 times and used lots of felt and tesa tape to isolate various parts. Also changes many seals on the driver door. Finally did the rear driver door seal and that did it. Take the door cart out and check everything. The plastic trim piece that has the speaker in it can be easily removed as well, there are a few places where the plastics touch the door metal frame, I put felt in between those pieces. Take your time and hopefully you can get rid of it. Good luck!
