Another new owner...
Picked up my 520ed today, traded in my 320 coupe which I was sad to see go
The 5 was one of the Olympic cars and was a great deal, managed to get winters on 17s and the 328 style 18 summer tyres in on the deal too Had the seal and protect chucked in for nothing and can't say I'm too impressed really - but alright or nothing I suppose. Pics to follow when I've cleaned it properly myself! Initially feels a bit underpowered in 1st and 2nd but its great when cruising and fiddling with I drive that I didn't have before |

Congrats and enjoy the car.
Out of interest, does the ED default to starting in Eco-Pro mode? I have a regular 520d (admittedly an auto version) and it defaults to starting in Comfort. I notice a distinct improvement in acceleration in Comfort vs Eco Pro and again a further improvement in Sport vs Comfort. Good luck and enjoy. |

Congrats, without being nosey, did you source the car on the open market or was there a special olympic volunteer purchase scheme?

its hardly as nimble as my e92 but then again i expected that it was a promotion by lloyd bmw in north east/cumbria. i gather they bought 200+ cars after the gamesmakers etc had the first refusal. http://www.pieceofhistory.co.uk/ high spec 520, 320, and 320 touring (old shape) for £23-£25k no 530 available as thats the one id probably have gone for. its got pro nav, visibility etc etc. although i wish it was the msport as for the deal basically they gave me 10k for my 08 e92 320 which had 4 bald tyres and was keyed on both sides (70k miles) and wanted £25k for the 520 i managed to swap the tyres for winters on the stock 17s, to drive off with and bought a set of style 328 18's for £800 (with tyres) and made them throw in tyre insurance and seal and protect (which looks rubbish - all the white polish is appearing at the door edges already) so in all i financed 15k over 3 years, apparently the value is likely to be 13.5k then anyway so it doesnt seem too bad overall. |

I too have just bought an ex Olympic car. Great spec and a very good deal. I've just done two long drives in the four days I've owned it. One from London to Norfolk and back. The second from London to Bruges. Say around 700 miles.
I've been driving a Volvo V70 2.4d which is mainly used for work and is great. That is 3 years old was bought from new and is also a manual. My first impression was that it was a big car. Its only 6cm longer than the Volvo but has a longer wheelbase. The 520d initially felt underpowered, especially in town. On the motorway its a great cruiser and averages 50mpg or so. I get to 80 without hearing or noticing it. It defaults to ECOPRO. In town driving I use Sport mode to get away at roundabouts etc. As others have said its a very good blend of comfort, performance and economy. The dealers won't move easily on price but if pushed will start to include things. Mine had done less than 1000 miles had vis, nav, and service pack (amongst other options). I've taken the plunge and gone for one of these as well. Slight discount but was the spec colour that I was looking for. The service pack was a nice bonus on these cars as well.
Should be picking it up on Friday. Be interesting to hear more feedback on the MPG people are getting... |

Actually, thinking about it, I got a £1500 discount over the list price on the AUC price- it just wasn't much of a discount compared with other national prices for similar spec cars albeit without visibility and service pack. They delivered it free too.
I added another 100 miles today, 60 on the M25 and the other 40 through town. It's really starting to show off its colours now especially in Sport mode. On the motorway I had about 60mpg and in town low 40s. |
