I can't tell you if Mothers' wax will burn your paint, while applying it on your car in direct sun light. However, most non-water & solvent base wax will burn your paint under that condition. Zymol is the best cleaning wax I've used for the past 12yrs. It's easy, requires low effort to buff off, you can apply in direct sun light, and it shines like a mirror.

Yeah I've heard good things about Zymol, sounds like a good place to start.

Does every wax require buffing to get the right shine? So a good wax would need minimal buffing? Is buffing usually performed by hand or a rotary?

Hi darrko, i was just wondering why you dont buy the original BMW car care accessories from your local BMW dealer in Karachi. Original is original, BMW have all car cleaning stuff, polishing, shampoo and other stuff. I also have the same sophisto grey (520i) and I have all the original BMW cleaning stuff. To avoid the scratches here is what i do: As I am living in ME and it is always dusty here, if the dust is too much, i take my car to a service station and get it washed/shampoo (original BMW shampoo) with high pressure water. If the car is less dusty, the cleaning guy (the one who cleans my car twice a week) first use the thick Sponge (fully soaked in water) to clean/clear the dust, I have always told him to apply the sponge softly in order to avoid scratches. then using the good quality Chamois, the water is cleaned and dried. I have been doing this since i bought the car (approx 2 month). I am sure you will enjoy your ride when it arrives or may be you already have reveived it.

The BMW original car care products are going to financially ruin me, being the only BMW dealer in the country gives Dewan a lot of room to overcharge and get away with it. Honestly though it never occurred to me to consider this as a viable option.

I am investing in a high-pressure car washer from Karcher and plan to wash the car myself. Its a little difficult for me to take it to the car wash every time the car gets dusty.....which is everyday! I know I will have to train the wash guy to stop using the plain car wash cloth and switch to micro-fiber and probably also introduce him to the 2-bucket system. I have also purchased a lot of car care material online and hopefully should be receiving it around the same time as the car.

The vehicle is expected to arrive in the country 2 days from today and hopefully be delivered next week. Can't wait to finally get it, waited 4 months for it!

Thanks for your advice.

Good to hear that you will get it next week. Which F10 version is it, 520D or something else? Does Deewan offers "free service package" for 3 or 5 years? Does they offer warranty also? You will have RFT (run flat tires) on this beauty, does your Karachi dealer provides the support services if you have a flat tire?
On a seperate not, just to give you an example for prices in Qatar for BMW accessories, the BMW shampoo is costing Qatari Riyals 49 (49/3.65= USD 13.42). It may help you in determining the price with your local dealer. (Any ways, we also have only one BMW dealer in Qatar). Cheers and enjoy.....the wait is killing.. i know that

520d Auto. Dewan offered me 1 year free service, if I remember correctly and a 2-year warranty with unlimited mileage. They will replace the RFT for a price, I guess.....I don't expect road-side assistance from Dewan! I plan to replace the tyres at the first opportunity anyway, maybe get 19" rims.....my current setup is with stock 17". The exorbitant customs duty really kills you.....the standard bare-bones 530i starts at the total I am paying for the 520d with all the options listed in my sig!

Thanks for sharing the Qatari price of the shampoo, I will ask Dewan for their prices and also BMW in Duabi.

Hopefully by next week I will have some photos to share with everyone here.

How about a quick pressure (not high) water wash with a very mild soap gun followed up with leaf blower to dry?

But make sure you apply some form of sealant every month (say glanz or other reputed brand) with a proper wash?

Yes, that's what I was thinking too. Is a high pressure wash not good for the car?
For the sealant I am considering Opitmum's Opti-Seal.

Not more than me, dude! The ship docks tomorrow, I am actually following its progress using the marine traffic website. I expect it to take 2 more weeks till I finally get the car *fingers crossed* and then an avalanche of photos.

+1 on Auto Geek. Get your detail guy the 2 bucket setup with the insert in the bottom, a couple wash mitts, quality microfiber towels, the detergent for washing the microfiber towels and have him watch the video on washing a car. You won't need clay unless the paint has already suffered fallout and contaminants. Same with wax, if your washing your car that often, I wouldn't have him waxing the car constantly. When your car is new have him do a full wash and dry. Auto Geek has a product I use during the Florida rainy season called Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant 3.0, it's only $40 for a 16oz bottle, and they also sell it in bulk, should you like it. Be sure the surface is clean and wax free before applying, this would be the best for your situation, in my opinion. If you are truly washing the car daily, I would have him re apply it every 30-45 days for piece of mind, but they say it is good for 6 months under normal circumstances. It is a synthetic paint sealant designed to be ultra slick and repel any environmental pollutants. If you keep up on this, you should never need to clay your paint. There is also a step by step instruction video on their website, showing in detail how to apply for best results. I wash my car weekly and found this stuff to be unreal. Good luck and enjoy your new ride...
