I can only get pandora to work via Bluetooth, no longer with the USB cable. What am I doing wrong?

I have a 2011 BMW 550i and have also updated to the most recent audio/phone firmware on the BMW Web site.

I'm on a Note 4 and unable to get Spotify or Pandora via USB. It works via Bluetooth (missing artwork). The BMW connected app is also very clunky and hard to work with.
