Wheel spacers vs aggressively offset wheels??

I have read the concerns some express with wheel spacers. Some say that spacers moves the wheel outward where the amount of rubber on either side of the hub varies greater, thus causing concern. Do wheel spacers create the same environment (for lack of a better word) than aggressively spaced wheels? Another way to ask is if already made wheels with aggressive offsets yield the same disposition as wheels spaced more aggressively with spacers. Just curious...

For what it's worth. I've ran spacers on lots of my cars and never had an issue. I'm also a very aggressive driver. I don't see what the difference would be as long as you run the correct wheel bolts for the spacers. Just my 2 cents

I'm not sure what your question is but if I read it correctly. Spacers are used to push the wheel outwards more to the owners preference. If you have an opportunity to buy a set of wheels that are made to your specs it's not needed to run spacers. There's nothing wrong with running spacers as long as you have the correct hub centric spacer with extended bolts.

Let's say you got a 20x9 ET35 wheel with 10mm spacer, that will sit on the car just like if you had a 20x9 ET25 wheel.

While I am not personally a 'fan' of spacers…. I just discovered while on Porsche's configuration tool that they offer spacers as a factory option.

Thanks for the responses guys. I apologize for my difficulty in explaining my question.

I understand that a wheel with an added spacer will look the same as a wheel with an offset that would match the distance of the spacer.

The reason I am asking this question is because many many people frown upon adding wheel spacers; however, most people don't complain about aggressive offsets on aftermarket wheels.

I am curious to hear your thoughts on this scenario as well: To get a OEM 9" wide wheel (351 wheel - 19x9 et:44) to have the same look as the flush fit of the 10" wide M5 wheel (343M wheel - 20x10 et:34), it would take the 9" wheel a ~22mm spacer!! My math: 1" = 25mm/2 =12.5mm + 10mm(additional offset of the 343M f10 wheel).

Question: what would the effect of a 20mm spacer be on a 9" wheel vs the 343M wheel. The spacer would push the wheel in one direction away from the hub, while the wider 343M wheel has a more balanced spread over the hub.

The way the tire will fit on the wheel is unaffected by wheel spacers. The way the wheel fits on the car is affected by wheel spacers. Wheel spacers just lower the effective offset of your wheel and tire setup. IE: If you run a 19x9.5 ET45 rear with a 12mm spacer, it will fit exactly like a 19x9.5 ET33 wheel.
