Questions about hidden test functions (cluster menu)
I am new to this forum and this is my first post so kindly bear with me if any questions seem trivial
I have a factory 523i 2011 with 68,000 kms on it. Lately I have been paying close attention to the coolant and oil temperatures, and some of the figures seem odd to me. (I have accessed the hidden test functions in the dashboard to get these values). In the Temperature function, this is what I get, exactly as shown in the cluster, at standstill: (outside temp was 37 deg. celsius) O. temp. sensor: 083 ADC O. temp. raw data: +50.0 Coolant temp.: +99 C Oil temp.: +112 C I live in Saudi Arabia where normal weather temperatures are 40-50 degrees celsius. After speaking to a BMW technician and picking his brain for a while, he said that Oil temperatures of BMWs are usually high to improve efficiency, and that here, in weather like this, it is absolutely normal for my car engine oil temperature to be up to 118 degrees celsius at standstill or at low speeds. Anything under 120 deg. celsius is considered normal oil temp (below the halfway mark), and for coolant, anything below 105 C is OK. At higher speeds, more air comes in and the temperatures of the oil and coolant drop. My car has the Gulf Weather Package (which basically means better A/C and engine cooling as I was made to believe). Question 1: Is the technician right about these high engine oil temperatures? Or are mine very high compared to yours and where you live? Question 2: In the cluster hidden test functions shown above, what is the O. temp. sensor: and what does it measure? Also, it varies constantly as shown in the pictures :s (Pics were taken within seconds of each other) Question 3: What is O. temp. raw data: ? Appreciate any input |

No idea. Raw data usually is used in a formula and there's no telling how. I would just concentrate on the oil and coolant temps, which really is the most important metric.
