Should I Buy This Car?

Fellow fanatics!

Been looking for a 535 for a lil while now. Recently came across one, which is priced well...for a reason...

The good stuff:
2011 White on Black
M Sport
Conv. Pkg
Premium 1 & 2 pkg
25k miles
07/11 production date

History:
Purchased 09/11
Accident 01/12 - airbag deployed, car disabled
Back on road (estimate) - 07/12
Owner traded in for diff car - 04/13
Sent to auction
At local mom & pop dealership last week

I test drove the car and she drives good...as far as I can tell....

A couple of problems -
Missing piece on left side of driver pertaining to driver assistance (see attached pic 1)
Cup holder is jammed and probably needs to be replaced
A couple of dings and stuff around the body (no biggie)
Yellow triangle with exclamation point on dashboard
Most importantly, error message pertaining to suspension. Please see attached image.

Being a newbie, I reached out to a service adviser at a local stealership.
He said that most things would be covered under warranty BUT if they see that the problem is a result of the accident and how the car was fixed after the fact, then they will have to charge to fix.

This car is abt $6k lower than comparable used cars. So, from your personal/professional experience, please advice!! I really fell in love with the car but dont want to get into something that will make me

Thanks much in advance!!

I will suggest waiting couple more months and a perfect car will be down to the price range you are looking for. You never know what future troubles you might get into with this. Plus it's always nice to have a complete warranty.

Pay the extra cash for a clean record CPO car. The re-sell value would be higher with a clean record car. Plus, you can't put a price on your safety.

My buddy's wife got in a crash in a used truck they bought. The airbags didn't deploy and her face is now a mess. Turns out, the last owner never replaced the airbags after the first crash.

I would stay away from a car with accident, especially airbag was deployed.

Walk away

Wait to get one that's 100 percent

The steering wheel also looks rather shiney for 25k as well. Mine has 7' on it and still has that matt effect to it

You are buying trouble if you purchase this car. I wouldn't do it. It must have been in a major accident if it took that long to repair it. It must have been nearly totaled.

Don't even touch it. If you're working on a tight budget and dreaming of getting in an F10 which your budget can't officially afford, this isn't a solution. Though, if it's something you just gotta do, I wouldn't even consider a car like this unless the discount was more like $15+K off of what comparable cars go for. So if a 2011 M Sport 535i goes for $50k, then $35K max. If you find a comparable 535i for $45K, then $30K or no dice, etc.

I HATE that! All used cars seem to get that effect when they have Nappa wheels. I was at a BMW dealership and even the CPO F10's seemed to have lost their matte sheen for that nasty oily gloss effect. It has nothing to do with age as much as it does the type of use and cleaning (or lack thereof). Someone who has oily hands and grips all over it, and either doesn't clean it with a damp rag enough or more harmfully uses a chemical to clean or "condition" it (a'la Armor All, etc.) will usually have that happen to their steering wheels.

IMO the most important thing to do to maintain these Nappa wheels is keep clean hands and wipe it every two to three weeks with a damp MF or chamois. Conditioning is good but isn't even so necessary if the more easy steps are taken, in my experiences. Nappa is so delicate that lots of conditioners seem to apparently be more harmful for maintaining its original dignity than anything.

Not sure how much this is going for, and what your wait time is ... but my lease is up in about 9 months .... Alpine White/Cinnamon/Anthracite 535i M-Sport, xDrive, will have approx 40k miles at that point. I have almost every option on the car, no accidents ... I'll have to see what the buy-out is, but I think you would be able to pick this up for around $44k. ... Sticker was $71k ... I'm not looking to make any money on you buying it ... just pay the buyout, and return my MSDs.

I guess I should have posted this info as well....Sticker on car was $67,500.....seller wants $37,700 firm.....a similar car with clean record should be around $45k..?? Maybe more..??

I hope you are not seriously thinking about this car. The car was in the shop for 6 months, it should have probably been total. There is probably serious frame damage and bunch of hidden problems that you will find the hard way.

Not being dispespectful to seller, but its way overpriced for 535i.
I am selling my 2011 550i with 40k and all warranty docs, not accidents, not a single dent on a car, its 99% out of 100. and i only sell it for $47000.
Not pushing my car, but just trying to make you think and do little more research.
Oh and i heard FL sales taxes are about 12-14 % ((
Best of luck!!!

I say again don't get it
Think what would happen when you come to sell it , you will have trouble or have to sell at a very low price....
I say keep on saving and when you have the funds, then go for one without accident damage.

$30K or don't even consider it (and at that price I wouldn't even consider it).

2011 535i's with those options and miles with M Sport are selling anywhere from high $40's to low $50's. M Sport I6's have held their resale values very well, much better than the V8 models do (which is typical of Luxury Cars).

Both of those things say WALK AWAY quickly! While the price may seem a bargain the repair on either item can cost you more than what you'd pay for the same car CPO'd from a reputable dealership easy! So the $5-8k which you save may save now could cost you much later on in $$ or maybe your life in an accident. Also it looks like there was a nice amount of time between the initial accident and it being repaired and put back on the road...so without records...that is another question which must be asked. Leave it be as most have already said!

If the problems was covered under warranty, dont you think the seller would have fix it at the dealer already. There is no cost for warranty repairs and the seller can sell the car faster and probably get more money for it.

Don't walk, run away and wait for the next CPO car.
My retired E60 was in a high speed $14,000 accident that damaged the entire left side as well as the rear suspension and rims.
Despite all the damage it only took two weeks to fix. There was no interior damage.

An F10 that was in the shop for that long was either a project car or had been badly damaged and it sounds like it wasn't even repaired properly. Mine was beautifully repaired and I kept it for 2.5 years.
I also took an estimated $8,000 trade-in hit to the value.

RUN.
