550i Undercar pictures
So i got my new 550i Xdrive with adaptive drive up on my 4 post lift on saturday.
Love to see under my cars and inspect it, and learn more about it. Here are a few pictures from my iphone. Mostly the exhaust do The exhaust has a outside diameter of 2-3/4''OD (70mm) from the downpipes all the way to the mufflers. I must say i was impressed on the setup ( for a factory setup) Nice big dual piping all the way, with nice secondary cats. These pipes must flow pretty good. A few crushed areas to add extra clearance room. But not bad at all in general. I was thinking of making a mid section to bypass the resonator x-pipe with a high flow x-pipe. This could add a bit of sound to the car. The 550 is just to quiet, needs a little more tone!! My car has the adaptive drive suspension, i took a picture of the rear swaybar hydraulic motor that is located right in the center of the bar, the other edges of the bar is like a normal swaybar, but it has the hyd motor in the middle. This motor must increase and decrease hyd pressure as required by the suspension controler. Pretty cool stuff.

Very nice...thanks for the pics...agree with you that the car is away too quiet...wish BMW would take a page out of the mercedes V8 cars..all the benz 8 cylinders have great sounding exhausts.. Wonder if just removing the center resonator and replacing with straight pipes/tubes will make a noticable difference.

You don't see the jacking points on these pictures.
The car has 2 plastics square lifting point on each side below the rockers.

I meant the central lifting points, not the jack pads. The beamers of old had a pad under the engine and a brace that in front of the diff that was the place to use seemingly.

Try an eisenmann system, you will definitely hear the car after installing it. |
