What is the Difference in Engines

So my wife and I upgraded from our 3 series to the 5 series, we both got 2011 535i, wife got the Xdrive Prod date 09/2010 and I have the sport package prod date 04/2010. driving both cars I can feel a big difference, my car engine is quieter and smoother, it has a slower pickup. my wife car has more aggressive sound, better pickup. I took a look at the engine and mark the only difference I could see.

Humm... good question, if someone can answer I would like to know too, btw you can always get JB4 down the road if you need more power.

That's the oil filter housing and I would guess that one car has an oil cooler while the other one doesn't. The difference you are feeling could be two things.... The adaptation from the previous owner of your wife's car is a lot more aggressive and the previous owner of your car was probably a 80yo grandpa lol.

Or

Your wife's car has a more updated engine and transmission software from BMW. BMW has come out with a lot of software updates for early production F10's and the latest is usually the greatest. I would push your dealer to update you to the latest engine/transmission software.

Hmmm, Thanks. I think the software upgrade is the answer, I have heard that BMW does not like to do software upgrade unless you really push them. Is there a cost for this ?

I will see if I can get them to do it, I have heard stories of them being resistant to upgrades.

Normally they don't just do software updates just because you ask them to but that varies from dealer to dealer. Complain about throttle lag and jerky shifting on your car as if you can't even bare driving it another day and the fix for this is usually updating your software to the latest and greatest. Good luck.

From what others have said here who got it done....the difference should be massive. I would make sure they tell you what version you are getting and if it's the most up to date from BMW. It should also take a few hours to update so if they hand you back the keys in an hour I would be really skeptical if they actually updated anything.

Please let us know what difference you feel in the car, I am hoping from 4/10 prod date till current there should be some major changes since then.
