Lower balljoints failure at 40k?

Just swapping over to my winter tire setup and i was inspecting the suspension and noticed both lower ball joints boots are torn and the grease is all gone. Has anyone else had a similar problem?

Also does anyone know if you can get a seperate ball joint or do you have to buy the whole control arm?

The ball joints can not be purchased separately, nor installed into an existing arm. It is manufactured as a unit and non serviceable.

The thrust arms don't even have a separately available big end bushing yet....

Torn boots at 40k is not common. Its likely someone was in there with a pickle fork and tore the boots.

exactly what i accidentally did on my Nissan Titan. used a pickle fork to separate the spindle from the LCA and i ended up tearing the ball joints boot because no matter if i used the Thor sledge hammer, it wouldn't drop!

so i ended up ordering a whole set of LCA's

Happened to my rears with 21k miles on the clock.

Not sure if it was from the springs or what not, but the dealer covered them under warranty with the springs in place
