Thats insane... Im sure you will get your money back.
Cant think of any reason why the downpipes will damage the DME.

BMW should handle this for you I think for sure.

Mike said it the best, how does dps/exhaust put water in a air tight sealed unit.
What a big joke.

Those stupid asses, being a dealer vendor and a former dealer GM I can tell you.

Service Managers, advisors and techs HATE WARRANTY WORK.
It doesn't pay what "Customer pay" does.

So they figure they void your warranty so you can fix it out of pocket and they make triple the labor rate and parts.

Scum

E46 Re-Hash?

Did you have leaves in your cowl? Big rainy season or lots or carwash trips?
Maybe water got into the DME and corroded it? Also is the dme covered under the 8 year emission? Above topics were issues with the early pre-95 3 series. Beefier drains were added. DME covered incorrectly installed or bad gasket?

@badblack550xi , I hope you got it resolved. That dealership shouldn't ask you to pay for the damage which was caused by water, not the downpipe.

I know this is an old one badblack550xi was your dme ever cracked open? I recently had a dme failure from potentially being unsealed and the resistors shorted. Wondering if yours shorted out from moisture?

The ticket says Corrosion found at terminals and internal DME. This means it got wet. Did you leave off any of the lower covers or wash your engine bay that caused it to get wet?

Never left the cover off or washed the engine bay. I'll see if I can get a close pic on the resistors

This thread is my worst nightmare. I would get them to justify how aftermarket parts made water get into the DME. It does not compute.

Dme failure is bad but I think the worst nightmare would be a piston shooting out of the block from adding just 1 more PSI.

The ECU is water cooled, possible some water was trapped inside the cooling system and got the ECU wet ?

I'll know soon. New/used for 300 bucks coming soon. Hard to find to find model production dme that for my year. Or drop 1500 dealer cost for a new one.
