535i Build with Quad Exhaust Question

Hello all.

I have been a long term member of this site and used it for my various cars but now this question comes for my dad's car and I'm looking for help because I'm not as familiar with the F10 mods. The hardest thing about this car is that I have to keep in mind its for my dad and not me (I'm 25 and he is a little over 60). So while I like sound and aggressive looks, he is more conservative but appreciates a tastefully modified car.

So I convinced him to get a black/black 535i that has the EDC I think (adjustable suspension) and sports package. He asked me to modify it for him with a sport luxury theme. So far I have installed the following:
- 21" MORR 3 Piece Forged Wheels
- H&R Lowering Springs
- JBSPeed Painted Reflectors
- JBSpeed Painted Blinker Surrounds
- OEM BMW Gloss Black Grilles
- Megan Racing Quad Exhaust
- Escort 9500ci Radar/Laser System

Parts I already have to be installed:
- JBSpeed ACS Style Roof Spoiler
- JBSpeed M5 Style Lip Spoiler
- JBSpeed Black/White Roundels
- CF Rear Quad Diffuser

Things I'm still considering:
- JB Tune (I know it's not a sports car and my dad doesn't drive fast but the car simply does not have enough power for it's weight)
- Basic Coding (Just need to find someone to do it)
- Painting Lower Bumper Trim Black
- Front Lower Spoiler (3D is the only one I've seen so far that I like)
- Open to any other ideas.

To me the car looks great and with the few extra modifications I think it will be done, but I am certainly open to any additional ideas because again, I am not an F10 expert and don't know all that is out there.

The problem is currently for him there is too much drone on the exhaust. I didn't notice it when I would drive the car because of my different driving style and I tend to leave the windows open a lot while driving. When I did roll the windows up and cruised on the highway I could definitely hear the drone. So while he likes the look of the quad he wants it changed. Since I was the one who did the build on the car I feel bad that I put something on that he didn't like and want to make sure 100% that what I do next will fix it. I have tried reading extensively on options (E6X M6 Mufflers, F10 M5 Mufflers, etc) but cannot come to an answer. Can someone please help me solve this with a good quad exhaust option. If they are local to the tri state area I would love to see/hear it in person.

Thanks in advance for your help!

I had a friend do a photoshoot that I will upload when he finishes editing them. But for now here is one quick one:

I wish there was an exhaust without droning... I think your best option is quad tips and stock mufflers

I agree with Artur-F10, if quietness is what your dad is looking for go back to the stock exhaust but just replace the tips.

From my understanding there simply isn't enough space to install quad tips without them sticking out way too far. He does like the sound under throttle but even for me the drone is quite annoying and I am used to all kinds of exhausts that I've had. I think part of it has to do with the 8spd tranny because it falls so low in the revs. I might try going the route of extreme sound dampening in the trunk. I was reading a build on another part of this site where someone did a whole trunk dampening for drone and it greatly reduced it.

There is enough space, you just need to find some short tips. I have 90mm quad tips with stock mufflers, but I bought them from Russia.
Also, Cyba sells some quad tips that fit f10

That's perfect, would you happen to have a link or anything? And any pictures of the underside? I wish I had seen this before I bought the current setup.

I think you should get your dad to give you his car so you can experiment and he should get a stock car with an M Sport package and DHP to replace it. At 60, I can't imagine he really wants half of this stuff along with the stiffer ride and noisier exhaust. As to the car not having enough power - it does 0 - 60 in 5.3 seconds. Are you seriously suggesting that isn't enough? If it isn't, he needs a 550. OK, you asked what people thought - that is what I think.

PS Why do you have to "convince" your dad of anything. It sounds like you are using his car and his money to pursue your "modding" dream. Oh, what we parents of young ones have to look forward to.

While I appreciate the input I don't think you understand what modding cars means to my family and my dad does like having a different car. He loves the lowered look, the wheels he even likes better than a 20" setup that I picked out, he just doesn't know where to look for the stuff. We've been doing this as a family thing since I was about 12 years old with cars. The car certainly does not have enough power for it's weight and even for daily driving getting on the highways near where we live and the driving style we both think it needs a little bump in power. This isn't my modding dream, I've had many modded cars myself and currently have a modded 1M so for us it was making a car that was unique in this area and having it be a father/son thing.

Love those wheels!
My understanding of droning exhaust, from the guy that custom built my Lotus Elise one this summer, is that is generally due to the bore being too large, it is vital the bore matchs the engine, else not only do you get more noise but you get a drone on motorways, which I did'nt want.
So, the only guaranteed way would likely be stock pipes and bigger tips I would say

Do you have any pics of the rear? I'm trying to find the cleanest way to do this to my 535xi. So far, i think this is what i'm going to do... 550 rear lower diffuser like this guy:

Drone seems like it comes with aftermarket exhaust. It just depends on how much you want/tolerate.

I have the M Performance exhaust on my 535, and it drones in lower rpms. And this is a BMW factory product.

So I drive in sport mode to reduce/eliminate the drone.
