DRLs without Xenon headlamps

Hi there,

Can anyone with a F10/F11 not having Xenon headlamps report on how the DRLs look? Are they the same compared to the DRLs in Xenon headlamps?

I came across a post somewhere on a german car forum that mentioned the rings would emit yellow light in this case instead of white.

The catalogue mentions DRLs with LED technique as a standard option however, so I am curious to know if there really is any difference.

Thanks for the feedback!

Yes they are yellow, they are an led but lit at the bottom in one place, with xenons the whole tube is illuminated and bright White. Halogen lamps are not really DLR.

Are you saying that the "all white" daytime driving lights are an optional extra?

As far as I am aware yes, I had the same question and spoke to BMW tech team. The White DLR corona rings come with Xenon option, you can't specify on their own.

I am gutted if this is true, I didn't ask the dealer before I ordered as I assumed they were on all 2010 and later vehicles.

Good news, non-Xenon cars do have the same white "temperature" on the DRLs, as confirmed by an owner on http://forums.5series.net:

Cheers!

Always a good idea to look at the option list to see what you might want! I'm a little shocked that a BMW salesman (assuming that's what they really are) would pass up the opportunity for a few more bucks on the tab.

BMW tech team confirmed to me that they are not bright White on halogen lamps. They are brighter than they used to be apparantly. I also had my dealer take a picture if one of his vehicles fitted with halogens. Guess what yellow!

That's exactly what I thought, there is a distinct difference. I have a picture of the halogen lamps just can't seem to upload. Not bright White !

Here is a picture of the Halogen Headlights - you can see the difference, the Coronna Rings are on!! but as it is light you can hardly see them unlike with Xenons the DRL are bright white.

Also it appears that the indicator/turn signals are LED on the xenon-equipped cars (i.e. 535i/550i in the USA) vs. standard indicators on the non-xenon/halogen cars.

To the poster above (DJOzma_FTW) - thank you. I'm perplexed why a dealer would purposely order lightly optioned cars with the anthracite headliner. Pad the car with revenue/profit?

The led indicators are a dealbreaker for me. Thankfully all F10 in Hong Kong come standard with Xenon (but not adaptive). So we have what you don't in NA i.e. Xenon but no adaptive

BMW NA marketing and their option packaging shenanigans....

Alright, in the meantime got mine delivered a couple of days ago ! I can confirm that the corona rings are fully white on non-Xenon headlights (no yellowish color). They do seem to be a bit less bright though than the Xenon ones, i.e. they are less visible especially in daylight conditions.

Here's a quick shot I took :
