M performance front lip
Guys,
Who has a replica (not carbon) M performance front lip? I'm interested from installation perspective and how strong is that thing? specially this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/191606408852...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT |

I had an identical one awhile back. It's PU so it's pretty strong and flexible enough to withstand scrapes, etc. Installation was simple. It'll come with tape for the 2 side fog light sections and edges. I made the mistake of putting extra 3M tape and it was almost impossible to remove. It'll bolt on to your existing holes underneath. There are 2 screws in the middle where holes will be made. I had to put 2 extra screws (1 on each side) of the outermost right and left edge because there were gaps. Overall, it looks great but if you're lowered, good luck because it'll scrape everywhere. Just wasn't worth it for me.

No. It was in great shape when I sold it, just some scrapes underneath that you can't see. The long, flat bottom piece is made of hard plastic so it won't sag or anything and the 2 fog light pieces are more flexible plastic. The lip is really made of 3 separate pieces, not 1 whole piece. It was actually on the wife's F10 for about 1 week and she decided it was too aggressive looking for her taste. I may eventually go with a Hamann style CF lip in the future, mainly because it doesn't hang as low and is more subtle.

Yeah, I ended up selling it painted AW for $150 to a forum member. I liked it but the wifey wanted it off. I also like the V style lip, the Hamann style as mentioned and the 3D style. Wifey is sporting the stock look for now.

well I was hoping to someone with longer user experience
just for a week your life mange to scrape it lol!! after you remove it how were the screw holes, were they noticeable? have you installed it yourself? I don't think that I will be able to do it even if I lift the front end over stands or jacks. Last edited by f10m-tech; 09-02-2016 at 02:31 PM.. |

Gotcha. No you can't see any of the holes. I installed it myself. You won't need to jack the car up or anything, just lay on your back. The 2 fog light pieces w/tape will hold the lip on while you screw everything else in place. From what I can tell, I'm sure you won't have durability issues because the bottom piece is very hard, almost CF stiff.

mine is single piece. already preattached bottom piece with rivets to the fog light pieces. the bottom part doesn't feel that stiff it's kind of flexible but not that bad.

Interesting. They have plenty of pictures of the real product installed on the car.
This is the only "replica" item I am thinking about installing on my car due to obvious reasons. Do you mind sharing a bit more detailed info as why you think it did not fit right? Did you try to install it yourself or take it to a body shop? I believe most if these PU replicas are all coming from the same manufacturer from Taiwan and appears to be good quality.

Well, since we never heard back from OP and he did not answer my above questions, I decided to pull the trigger and order the lip.
It showed up very well packed and a week head of schedule indicated from the tracking number. It included necessary hardware and 3M heavy duty stickies were preinstalled. I mainly bought this lip to protect the underside of the bumper from the potential scrapes. It costs less than $200 and it doesn't look bad. Install was easy but it definitely is a 2 person job. Yes, the fitment isn't 100% flush but it is close enough. You are not buying a $2K lip in here. Overall, I am very happy with the purpose that it is going to serve and it matches the black accents of the M-Spot bumper pretty well. I would definitely recommend this lip just alone bang for the buck factor. Here are some pics:

Thanks TTG for the update on this lip.
I'm was also looking for a PU version of the M performance lip. I love the OEM M perf lip on my F30 and I'm looking for the same look on my F10. This will be perfect. I'll probably paint the portion that wraps over the stock bumper to colour match the car but leave the "flat" piece on the bottom in that matte black. My F30 came with it painted like that and I think it looks fantastic! Thanks again for sharing! I'll definitely be picking one of these up. |

I am glad I could help.
It has been on the car for couple of weeks and I am still happy with it. I like the black and white look on my car but painting it would look even better if the car was a different color.
