Steering wheel swap: standard --> M
Hey all. I have a family member who has come to me to ask about swapping the standard steering wheel in his F10 to "something thicker".
First off: What's available? I assume (not owning a 5 series) that there is an M-Sport wheel. Second: How feasible is the swap? His vehicle does not have the lane departure warning or a heated wheel. Will the airbag swap out, or would a new one need to be purchased? Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks! |

The Sport Wheel is indeed a little thicker than the regular wheel and it should be possible to put one in. Your best resource is to go to RealOEM.com and look up the parts that will be needed. My guess is that you will also need the specific Airbag for the new wheel.
Just out of curriosity, I looked up the parts. It does look like the Sport wheel and Air Bag are unique, along with the switches on the wheel. Pricing for the wheel is roughly $1,000, another $1,000 for the airbag, and would guess $300 for the switch? Last edited by ghueser; 12-12-2011 at 03:14 PM.. |
