Just got a 550ix M sport need mod suggestions
carbon black!
I love the car but coming from an e90 m3 im in a transition phase! I have budgeted about 5k for mods. Ive been reading the forum all day and have come up with the following so far. but Id like some suggestions 1) HK Springs 2) Eisenmann Exhaust Sport/Race 3) Basic cosmetic stuff, painted reflectors, gloss kidney grills, m5 style spoiler, tints i think that installed probably puts me around 5k. any other suggestions or anything i am missing? im concerned with my warranty with the exhaust and to a lesser extent the springs. do people remove their exhaust before going in for service? thanks! |

Congrats!!! I know EXACTLY what you're going through and where it will take you lol. Traded my e92 M3 in for my 550i M sport last month, there is definitely a transition that needs to take place. But you have much more car now than you did in the M3. The 550 doesn't disappoint. I'm planning on springs for mine also to help minimize body roll, but the truth be told this car is a beast and you can't beat that torque and that feeling when you get on it ( for a non M car). Are you going to change out the wheels? That's an option, other than that sounds like if you complete the mods you've named you'd be even happier. Pics please.

i wasnt going to change the wheels because i loved them when i bought the car.
that being said after browsing the forums and going through other peoples pics wheels may be in my second round of upgrades. first thing i want to fix is the sound! my e90 wasnt loud but its night and day to the 550. |

congrats! The 550 is a beast in sheep's clothing.
Never heard of HK springs. The most popular springs on this forum with nothing but raving reviews are the ACS springs. H&R give you the lowest drop but harsher ride compared to ACS. Eisenmann Race should set you back about 2800ish. Excellent choice You may want to consider a Dinan flash for the 550 if you want another 100HP to play with and totally forget about your old M3 lol Alan

sorry meant h&r springs.
the acs springs i read have only about 1/2 inches of drop. where the h&r are 1 inch. i was going to run sport mode and h&rs hopefully that would be a good balance. what about warranty with the mods? |

You might get some crap for the springs if you go in for suspension noise/issues. that depends on the dealer.
No dealer should be blaming an exhaust for any warranty work if they are reputable shop. The Eisenmann is only a axle back system so they can't even try to deny warranty on that part. Engine tune wise if you go with Dinan you shouldn't have issues with warranty if your dealer is a authorized Dinan dealer. This is the reason why Dinan stuff cost so much....its for the peace of mind. Alan

Congrats!!!
The dealer shouldn't give you any problems with an aftermarket exhaust and the Dinan tune. Not sure about the suspension, but I don't think I've heard of any issues with that. Unless you value how your car will sound over maximum power potential, I would definitely recommend getting the Dinan tune. It's almost the same amount of money as an exhaust and the tune gives you a 25% increase in power. Raj

im going to wait on the tune for now. i want to get a feel for the car at stock boost.
still debating the exhaust. i dont want something too aggressive. im not the only driver of the vehicle. part of me wants to get the work done at bmw and get dinan stuff but its much more expensive. |

Drive for a couple of months and then decide if you are going to need more power.
Eisenmann Race is a great choice. Sport version sounds like stock to me but has less drone than Race. If you cant stand any drone, don't get the Eisenmann Race.

In order to void your warranty the dealer would have to directly prove that your mod caused the fault. With the suspension this may pose a problem if your shocks go out prematurely (highly unlikely) but as for anything engine related really no way for springs and exhaust to blow a head gasket.
Dinan tune is obviously covered so probably the safest bet for a brand new ride and some of the numbers they've been able to get out of the 550 are insane!! Hope that helps some and enjoy your new car!! |

I've been driving with Eisenmann Race for about a month already.
The drone was too loud for my wife at the first couple of days, and now she's ok about it. I guess the tone became deeper. I think that Race version is what the Sport should sound like. It's not that loud!

pulled the trigger today on a eisenmann race and H&R springs.
after more research and talking to a few people seems like the sport version doesnt give enough oomph. hopefully the drone won t be an issue and the overall exhaust wont be too loud. ill keep you guys posted. |
