Insurance renewal

Hi all,

renewal time, and relatively new to the 535D, and wondering if anyone has any tips on who to use for insurance.

age 46 2 speeding convictions still to be recorded, one from 2011 and one from 2015.

Non fault accident took place in Jan 2016, 3rd party accepted full liability.

Best quote I've had so far is £626 but not sure if this is reasonable or not?

Thoughts?

Doesn't sound bad to me I'm 48, clean licence, no accidents or claims and full no claims. 520d just over £300 for me.

Thanks guys, first time I've really had a car at this type of power level so wasn't sure what to expect.

I've typically always been in 2.0 turbo diesels, but the deal for the 535 was just too much temptation that I didn't even give insurance much of a consideration at the time.....

530D M Sport for me, age 25 and I paid £620 this year with Direct Line. I've got no speeding convictions and 7 years NCB. £350 excess.

Have just had to make my first insurance claim though, honestly can't fault Direct Line so far, they've handled it well and authorised the works asap.

Garage List
I'm 59 , maximum no claims, with a 2012 530D, 27,000 miles per annum. My renewal with LV was quoted around £550 - a significant increase. A basic quote from Aviva was £282. By the time I added NCD protection and Europe cover as well as reducing the standard excess I paid £397.50 - and got a £60 Quidco cachback on top. Also the default repair shop for Aviva in my area is Williams BMW Bolton.

Sounds high to me. Mine is just over £300 for a 2015 535i. I am a similar age to you, no convictions, re-map included.

48 (but aging well ), FNCB, 535D MSport Touring, no convictions, £448 fully comp (£500 excess) with Aviva including business motoring.

The cost will also depend on your postcode of course and the history of thefts from your area - which the Insurance Companies will have precise details on (and thus their exposure to risk).

Came over from company cars and Aviva are one of few insurance companies that will give you some no claims bonus on production of proof that never had a claim in the company car. Will shop around now that I have got FNCB when renewal is up in January.

The company that you are insuring with is also important when looking at costs, as well as where you live. I used to go for one of the cheaper options when insuring my cars until I was involved in a three car accident which resulted in my E70 being written off. My insurance company was more interested in trying to chase me for costs and give me a Corsa as a hire car than they were in chasing the third party who was to blame for the accident.

Over two years and an ombudsmans decision awarded against the company and they still haven't paid me a few thousand that they owe me after undervaluing my car. I'll have to take them to a small claims court....

So my advice is that you don't understand the value of insurance until you need to use the service for a claim. I now only use Defacto 5* rated companies that will use BMW workshops if a repair is required. Costs a lot more but well worth it based upon my experience. These are expensive and complicated cars, you want someone who knows what they are doing repairing them if something should go wrong.

I use Sky insurance, age 43, no convictions, no accidents, 9+ / much longer no claims discount. £560 fully comp for business use included, parked on drive and a third car where they are matching the NCD since we have two other policies with them. Their underwriters are Algeas Duluth

I entirely agree with Beast. Don't go cheap. I make up for this by not bothering to insure anything I can afford to replace ... Like household appliances, and mobile phone insurance for example, or Denplan, instead I have paid for treatments required and saved in the long run.

(Home insurance with Hiscox, expensive, but the best insurer. We had a burst water main in our last house and their loss adjuster told us to claim for things we'd never have thought of. Other companies, would have argued the other way).

I hate waiting on phones for an hour or more to get through to somebody who hasn't got the first clue about insurance, then even longer when if you have a claim.

I've used Cheam insurance brokers before when I had a remapped 335d and they were excellent, requiring only emails for communication re changing over for winter wheels etc. Unfortunately they have not been so competitive last few years.
