I'm an idiot... 120mph speeding ticket

Hands up, I'm an idiot. Meā culpā.

The details don't matter, but I have a court hearing tomorrow to plead guilty or not guilty to the charge of speeding.

It's likely I'll lose my licence for 12-months or even 18-months according to my solicitor. I'm not looking for advice on defending the charges, I'm guilty. What I'm asking for, is some of your wisdom and thinking on how to look after my car.

1. Should I let it sit on the drive for a year? maybe starting the engine each month?

2. Should I sell it as the depreciation alone will cost me net £3000?

3. Is it possible to lease it? £450 per month would be nice.

4. Do I let my ex-wife drive it?

5. Any other options I've not considered?

Any thoughts would be very welcome.

Cheers, Andy.

Sell it, how tempting will it be in 3 months time to just get into it and drive to the shops for some bread etc or to take it out for a quick drive.

Sell it. You have time on your hands so I would see how much dealers charge for a similar car, price it cheaper and stick to your guns ensuring you don't throw it away too cheaply...

I'm stupid too, got caught doing 70 in a 40 a few weeks back! Waiting for the court date, rang Patterson Law who seem to think they can help me out. They specialise in solely motoring offences

Big OPPSSS,,,,,,,

Wright a letter and ask you solicitor to present it, that's what I did several years ago.

A laps in you concentration while diving, don't normally go over the speed limit, house owner, only income, loose licence and I will loose my job as it entails driving to and from work as well as driving to customer site's. etc etc, I was doing over 100mph on my 750 Fazer,,,, I got a £300 and six points

Thanks for your comments - I know I have to sell it... just a painful decision. It's now on AutoTrader. I even just paid £180 to get the wheels spaced out perfectly. 12mm on the rear and 10m on the front...Name: IMAG0276.jpg

Bugger, my colleague has just got done for 85 in a 70, a straight 3 pts, but added to the other 6 he got last year, he hasn't even run his 535d F10 in yet, and sitting on 9pts, and drives for a living. He will get a driver if he gets caught again he says, which of course is an option for you?

I have 3 points, as stated previously got caught doing 70 in a 40... Patterson Law seem to think that they can negotiate a 14 day ban rather than the 6 points that I would most likely get. Better than driving around with 9 points for 3 years and having run insurance quotes I'm actually better off with the short ban

Garage List
If you can't sell it via Autotrader etc then speak to your local dealer. A lot of the big chains now have buying teams who are always interested in good spec german stuff and will offer more than We Buy Any Car

Keeping isn't an option because even without a licence you will have to insure it and I can't help thinking with a ban, that would cost stupid money.

One option is to declare the car off the road, providing you have private parking, if not pass on the ownership to someone you trust and have them insure the cat if a must, if you opt to not keep the car, but sell it now, the next 5 is due out end of year /early 2017, the F10 will devalue even further.
For the mod, I am sure you can remove them for ebay gains to limit the damage I guess.

Another two friends got done in their Lotus's together for 105 each I think it was by a plain clothed cop bike, they each got a £5-600 fine, no ban.

Hope you had as good news, how did you go Andy?

Thanks for the lovely comments, I pleaded not guilty; I have to go back in 2-months with my defence.

I have 9-points already and my solicitor isn't too hopeful. At least I have 2 months until the trial to sort things out.

If you don't mind me asking... how much is this legal process costing you?

Mainly, what sort of money is the solicitor charging?

Would fully understand, if you choose not to divulge the cost.

... and good luck with your hearing.

A normal solicitor is no good for you, you need one that specialises in purely motor legal work. Normal solicitors just tell you to plead guilty, say your sorry and take whatever punishment that you get...

Hope it goes well. Be careful what you say in court. You have admitted to the offence on a public Internet forum and posted a picture of your number plate. You don't want to commit perjury whilst you are presenting your defence. You can go to prison for perjury. So make sure you don't say anything that contradicts what you have said here.

Extremely good point MrP. Many debtors have been caught out like this on the debt forums, where they have posted details which allow themselves to be identified by creditors.
I've asked around at work for you and colleagues in a similar position have spoken of slatergordon - I am not affiliated in any way of form with these guys.
Give em a call.

A few years back I was 'caught' doing 99mph on the M4 by a mobile camera van and I disputed it. Specialist company charged me about £1000 to take on the case. But if you are successful the court awards you your costs so you pay the solicitor nothing - except the solicitor then charged me £250 to recoup the costs from the court! Crown prosecution dropped the case before it got to court.

Many years ago I got caught in my "hot hatch" doing 125mph; the needle was actually off the clock so the kind police officer confirmed my speed as we had a little chat in his car. Luckily for me he couldn't believe I was going that fast when he first clocked me so he reset it and clocked me again; by which time I had seen him and slowed down and had an average speed of 99mph. I didn't dispute the offer of 3 points and a fine!
