Connected Drive. Spotify
Hi
Sorry...there seems to be a number of threads....most inconclusive around "Pairing" via bluetooth abnd running Spotify from the Idrive screen ( selecting playlists etc) My understanding is that you have th BMW Apps option to do this. (?) I have a new order 5 series coming with Professional media and enhanced blue tooth spec'd. .....I didn't spec the BMW Apps Can it be purchased after delivery? Do i actually need it to run Spotify from the Idrive? I can't really code it by a 3rd party ( even if possible as it is a company lease vehicle and I , in no way , want to contravene any warranty shite) I'm thinking i dropped a clanger not specing the Apps..... yes? Thank you in advance R |

I specified Professional Nav and enhanced Bluetooth, but didn't have to specify apps separately, so unless somethings changed then all you need to do is have both the Spotify and BMW connected apps on your phone. If you connect the phone via USB or the adaptor, then open the apps, you'll be good to go. You can also open Spotify on the phone and stream via Bluetooth, but all you can do is change tracks if you do it that was (you'll still get album art)

Hi Martin
Thanks for the prompt reply. Well, that sounds encouraging...... I take it I download the BMW apps onto my android ( Microsoft Windows 10 phone) via the "Apps Shop"? Cheers R |

Ok... From the BMW website it states download the app from google play..
This is where I'm confused..... Is this a special "BMW Spotify" App ( because I can't find one) I'm looking for of just Normal Spotify? ( sorry .. I'd try the normal one out but haven't got the car yet) If it's the normal app and the drive does its thing to make it happen........cool. |

I will do- Thanks
Arrives at the dealers 27th May........ ( So will i but I'm sure it'll be another week after I collect) I'm already driving a 520d ( Business Nav etc) but have done 100k+ in 2.5years so time to change .I love the car so much that when faced with a new choice ( despite the new 5 coming next year) I opted for another......just spec'd it up a little more ...to make it feel like a change. Has anyone managed to get the album art to work when streaming on Bluetooth, it works fine when connected via USB, but only the first song artwork comes up when streaming, it's very annoying

I don't have apps or extended Bluetooth in my car. I've got NBT with the touch controller, FYI.
Once Spotify is loaded up on the phone I plug it in via an official apple cable to the USB port and its good to go. Spotify is found in the ConnectedDrive menu, but I've programmed one of my shortcut buttons to Spotify, so I just plug in, press "5" and off I go. It works equally well with Tune-In radio. |

Car arrived and now, with it all in front of me, it makes sense. ( ?...)
The issue with the Microsoft phone is there is no BMW connected App available......so when USB into the car it does not pull Spotify onto the Pro Nav. ( phone call etc are fine for Bluetooth...ec). You guys knew that but I thought it was about the phone not the App. So only having an IPad I've down loaded the Apple version , plugged in Via Usb used Connected Drive Assistant and it's working. The IPad tucked down beside the seat..........not ideal and I may invest the n a second hand IPhone 4 and just leave it in the console for just this purpose. The only thing is ...when I turn off car and leave ....when I come back it continues to be tethered and plays from where I left it....but I lose the Playlist/ Album menus till I close and open Spotify on the IPad. Not a major inconvenience but a little confusing at first as it did play the track from where the car shut it down. I'm going to try and Bluetooth it today, We'll see how that goes! Thanks for all your input everyone.......was all a bit confusing until I could get in front of the ProNav. R |

Do you still need to open the connected app on the phone for it to work though, or does pushing button 5 do that as well? |
