You think that's bad $125,450 for the 550i here in Ireland and $92,000 for the 535i (and that is the SE modle)!

Imagine if you could get the M3 V8 in a 335i for $3700. How many people would take that?
It's not quite that good. The difference is $5700. That's pretty significant. Not to mention the fuel savings with the I6 compared to the V8.

Look at the difference. 550i gets different pricing on ZPP, ZP2, and metallic paint.

535i = 50475+1800+4900+500 = 57,675
550i = 60575+0+2800+0 = 63,375

Difference = 5,700

It is a joke

It is a joke that a car like this AND at this price point does not come standard with metallic paint and leather. Not to mention navigation and plenty of other options which come standard on similar cars.

Once again the 528i will probably be turned into a horrible value, without even power seats. Its a shame BMW refuses to make the lower end of their line a good value. Most purchasers don't want 14mpg and 400hp, why should BMW punish them for that?

Don't think of it as coming "standard", think of it as you having the option to save money if you want. With an Acura, for example, the only choice you have is the Nav system, pretty much. All other things are included, period. BMW is at least making then optional if you want to lower the price.

That's a separate issue than if the BMW 535i is $20K more "value" than the Acura TL that's similarly equipped.

The E550 is 4K less than the 550i. When has that ever happened. WOW. I was expecting the prices to undercut the E class. No luck there. WOW

Quit whining about paying for options that are standard on lesser vehicles!

Good point. The separate issue: Is the cost of a BMW with similar options worth the extra $ over other manufacturers. I believe it is. I enjoy the *shrinking* exclusivity of driving a premium vehicle, particularly if that vehicle is such a value for the dollar as a BMW. The 3 series over the last few years became too affordable and lately everyone and their dog is driving a 3 series. I would rather avoid stopping at a red light and seeing riff raff in the same 550i as me. Haha, kidding... I'm not that shallow but I would rather the price remain premium enough to keep away those people that lack the skill and appreciation of driving a BMW.

Now, where is that gd wholesale and ED pricing?!!! I'll be in Europe for the month of July and would like to negotiate my 550i pick up.

Cheers,

Sois

Looks like the pricing is higher than the Benz E Class. Shouldn't they cost about the same?

The current E550 is not a huge seller so it doesn't surprise me. All they did was take the old design and turn it into a square. Kept the motor the same as well........

Perhaps, if the E Class was not a POS automatic only vehicle for diaper wearing seniors.

I'm not sure about the E550, but the E350 has been less than the 535i for about 2 years now. If I recall correctly, the price point between the old 550 and the E550 was pretty close before.... so I guess now the's time for a revaluation.

Also, I'm pretty sure that Benz has been doing some turbo-charging of their own, so expect some new engines for the E-Class in the not-so-distant future.

Euro delivery MSRP will be 7% below the US-base price excluding delivery charges. Option and delivery MSRP does not change for Euro delivery.

Right.

But it also comes standard with things that you have to pay extra for with the 535i. That's why I said "unless I was going to forgo most or all of the options included with the 550i". If you just add up the cost of the options for the 335i that come standard on the 550i, you get the number I mentioned in my post (unless I miscalculated or missed some). In other words I am comparing a base 550i to a comparably equipped 535i which is a very sensible way to compare. It isn't the only way, but it is a good way to normalize away the options and place a value on the model content itself.

Also true, but again you get the better engine and the faster car. If I am buying a 60k car (or really, any luxury car) I am not putting fuel savings high atop my list priorities. However, I realize that everyone has their own set of priorities.

I agree that the base price is less. But once you add options on, it quickly starts to get more expensive than the e60.

F10 530d in US?

Why BMW is so 'shy' on introducing the 530d to the US market alone with 535i and 550i. A diesel equivalent will be great for many drivers. I don't get the BMW pricing policy and whole concept of "going green". If they really want to introduce efficient cars to the US market why not having 530d?
Take for example the Gran Turismo - it comes only as 550i - the most expensive version.
They want to push people to buy their most expensive version first rather of trying to sell more efficient vehicles. I actually think that 530d is much better than the 535i and many drivers will prefer it. Perhaps the EU versions are on almost same price.
I don't have the official US specifications in terms of MPG but I took for example the EU models and I made the math from L/km to US liquid gallon for the conversation:

535i - 0-100 km for 6 sec - Urban (11.8 L/100 km ~ 19.93 MPG) Extra Urban 6.6 L ~ 35.64 MPG
530d - 0-100 km for 6.3 sec - Urban (8 L/100 km ~ 29.40 MPG) Extra Urban 5.3 L ~ 44.38 MPG

The bottom line is that 530d is ~ 45% more efficient (urban) for only 0.3 sec difference (0-60).
Correct me if I’m wrong but 44.38 MPG (Extra Urban) and such a great performance they can beat the competition. So why BMW doesn't want to introduce the 530d earlier in the US market?
